    Salina, KS
South Salina was the home for the old Schilling Air Base which closed around 1965. This base then became Schilling Manor, a waiting wife's base, a home for family whose spouses were overseas serving our country in the military. This base had all the conveniences that any military base would have. There was a commissary, swimming pools, gas station, teen club, gym and it even had an elementary school. The base closed permanently and was sold around 1976.The elementary school is still being used today. Housing is divided into three subdivisions; Hollybrooke which is known as the basement side and Fox Run which is the elementary school side with no basements. The other division is known as South Winds which is equipped with a nursing home. The homes in this division do not have basements.
