Sign ups are in full swing for the Grain Valley Sports League for tackle and flag football along with cheer. This league is designed to get the local youth involved in sports and get them to be team players. GVSL is a not-for-profit group. The motto for the camps is to create an opportunity for K- 7th graders to play organized sports. This not only teaches our youth the fundamentals of each sport, but what it means to be an Eagle athlete in Grain Valley and have a fun environment to play and learn.

It is definitely that time of year again! Christmas lights are beginning to go up, the weather is starting to cool off, and Grain Valley is ready to shine. Grain Valley is always one of the best places to experience the Christmas spirit. It usually begins with the "Santa Bus" travelling around the neighborhoods. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of the kids to meet Santa. This tradition is something that my children look forward to every year. In recent years, Grain Valley has been one of the stops for Kansas City Southern Railroad's "Holiday Express". Once again, I am proud to call Grain Valley home.

These kids are sure to represent us well.
  • As a resident of Grain Valley, I am happy that this city continues to grow. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the metro, and one of the nicest places to live. The school district is second to none, and is growing just as fast as the city itself. If you are looking for a place to call home, this is it!

Grain Valley landed 17th on the list of the safest cities in Missouri in 2015, according to the FBI. This small town feel town has so much to offer. It is a growing community with award winning schools, close commute to the metro, several well-maintained parks and much more. We moved here two years ago and we were welcomed with open arms. My children have adapted well to the community and we now call Grain Valley home.

The city has fun things going on all year round in one of the local parks, such as "Popsicles in the Park" and just last Friday night, "Movies in the Park". Great community building and a wonderful way for new people to meet some of the locals. GVAA is our local parks and recreation for youth sports. They offer track, baseball, basketball, cheer, soccer, softball, and my personal favorite, football.

The reason I choose Grain Valley is that I am a small town girl and here you can have a small town feel with the amenities for a growing family.

Located just two blocks south of Interstate 70 in Grain Valley is the Grain Valley Community Center, located adjacent to City Hall. The Community Center houses a gymnasium, fitness center, locker room and shower facilities. The Community Center also offers residents of the community a conference/meeting room, reception room, and a full commercial kitchen.

In the gymnasium, the city provides equipment for playing basketball and volleyball. These facilities are available for rental during normal operating hours. The Fitness Center has treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, weight lifting equipment, and free weights. The Fitness Center also has cable TV for your convenience! Locker room facilities are available for the fitness center and the gymnasium. The best part about this facility is that for first time visitors, the Community Center gives you free admission! It is important to mention that the Community Center requires proof of residency within the Grain Valley city limits for use.

Within the conference space and the meeting rooms, there is seating for up to 35 people. The facility will provide you tables and chairs, and other essentials to conduct your business.

If you need a place for special occasions, the Community Center has a reception/multipurpose room. This is great for a mid-size group get together. The maximum capacity of the facility is 300 people. This would make a great wedding, and/or reception venue. Included for those having meetings or receptions, the city installed a full commercial kitchen in the facility to use during your event.

Outside, the community center offers many outdoor activities to help keep residents healthy. Among the amenities available to the community are a park with a playground and shelters for picnics. There are also baseball/softball fields and seasonal leagues that play. For the teenagers, the City of Grain Valley offers a skate park. There is also a community pool complex that is open seasonally.

You may also read my other review of the Grain Valley Community Garden project located across from the park.

For more information and fees for the facilities, you can visit the city website by clicking on the link that says "Explore the City of Grain Valley, Missouri!"

The Grain Valley Branch of the Mid-Continent Library opened in 2014 and is very involved with the community. They hold events regularly to keep kids interested in reading. I recently took my wife and children to this branch when they had Santa and Mrs. Claus read to the children! With comfortable seating and a vast range of books and subjects there is guaranteed to be a book for your kids to read!

Just north of Highway 40, in Grain Valley, is Valley Speedway. You can come for a fun night at the track. Valley Speedway features a dirt track that facilitates three different classes of race cars: Midget, Lite Mod, and Outlaw. For spectators, there is a full concessions stand, candy stand, and a merchandise stand. General admission starts at $5.00 for children, and goes up as high as $15.00 for adults on the Party Deck (with the exception of Pit Row Passes, and for special events, which could be higher). So no matter what your budget, you are likely to find a great seat at a great price!

If you want to make it an overnight trip to the track, "primitive" camping is allowed in certain areas with no hookups provided. At Valley Speedway, you are certain to have a fun night at the track, whether you go alone, or make it a family outing! Race season runs typically from March through October, but they hold special events throughout the year, weather permitting. Check their website for an updated list of events.

I've also included a fun video showing some of the racing that goes on out at Valley Speedway!

Just off of I-70 in the community of Grain Valley, at the corner of Main and Walnut, lies a fresh garden where the residents can rent a plot of land to garden. The city will even apply 1/2 of the $10 fee towards seed for residents. This is one of about 12 gardens that are being planned across Eastern Jackson County. The County has earmarked grant money to the cities that put in a Community Garden. The land is owned by the city but is managed by the City Department of Parks and Recreation. There are a few benches to sit on and a water source for the residents to use in order to ensure that their plants are getting the right amount of water. This is a very neat resource for the residents of Grain Valley to take advantage of while the weather is warmer.

Grain Valley has a new movie theater! B & B Theatres offers 8 theaters to view new and sometimes classic movies. Movie tickets for adults are $9.50 and children are $6.50 for a Friday night. When you walk into the movie theater the concession stands are right up front where you will also buy your movie tickets or pick them up if you order online like I did. The movie theaters are good size, not too large and not too small. They have leather seats that are comfortable to sit in while viewing your movie and plenty of leg space in the aisles. All in all it was a great date night out at Grain Valley Marketplace 8! I would recommend anyone in Grain Valley, Blue Springs, Buckner or Oak Grove to check it out and enjoy a night out at the movies!

Grain Valley is a wonderful suburb of the Kansas City area. It is located east of Arrowhead and Kaufmann Stadiums on I-70 and is growing in leaps and bounds. This sleepy little town has come alive in the last 10 years and is a wonderful place to raise your kids. Grain Valley boasts a great school system, newer neighborhoods and affordable housing everywhere.

Grain Valley is unique. It falls under the USDA mortgage loan program east of Minter Road. So, you could purchase a new home with very little down (there are income guidelines). This provides a wonderful chance of home ownership with little out of pocket expense. Grain Valley offers single family residences, duplexes, homes with acreage, patio homes, and maintenance free villas. Property is moving fast here because it is a great community to live in and is affordable for everyone!

We now have our own cinema, tons of shopping nearby, a huge community center with swimming pool and Armstrong Park to host your picnics and more. We also have a race track where local drivers race every weekend. Grain Valley is close enough to get to the city in only 20 minutes, but far enough out to enjoy small town atmosphere. Home prices range from $100's to $500's and there are many new homes being built. Remember, they are eligible for the USDA, nothing down loan also. Come home to Grain Valley!
