    If you are looking for something to do this weekend, come join in on the fun at the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin City! The festival runs this Saturday, October 15th and Sunday, October 16th. The parade starts at 11:00 a.m Saturday morning. There will be plenty of Vendors and food to fill your weekend! A great time for the whole family.

  • Douglas County Lake is a free campsite in Baldwin. It features over 30 campsites as well as fishing, boating, hiking trails and is open to hunting. The wildlife area around the lake is 532 acres. In 2006, the lake was drained for dam repairs and other improvements. A restocking plan began as the lake started to fill back up, which included largemouth bass, channel catfish and crappie, and today the lake is a great place to go fishing!

    Every year since 1957, Baldwin City has hosted the Maple Leaf Festival during the third full weekend in October. It began as a way to celebrate a successful harvest and to view the fall foliage. Today, it is the largest fall family event in the area and features a parade, arts and crafts, quilt show, theatrical performances, history tours, train rides and live music. Annually it draws crowds of 30,000 or more.
  • Baldwin City was founded in 1858 by the Methodist as the town of Palmyra. With a population of approximately 4515 Baldwin City is located approximately 15 miles S.E. of Lawrence. It is home to Baker University, one of the oldest four year colleges in the state. Baldwin City is known for the pre-civil war battle "The Battle of Black Jack", for the Midland Railroad and the Maple Leaf Festival which was started in 1957. Baldwin City has newer schools and a great athletic tradition. Real estate is affordable and the inhabitants display a great deal of "Midwest hospitality"! Come tour the downtown with its beautiful brick streets!
