I like to attend the art class at Washburn Towers. Painting and coloring are just a few of the things the art class offers. I am no artist, but I enjoy being creative with other peers!

Just a heads up about the prediction of an ice storm this weekend for our area. Please take caution when driving or even walking on the ice. It sounds like it will be best to stay inside.

Experience the first Christmas at the Bethlehem Project at the Sylvester Farm Ottawa.
This annual event features a living Nativity Scene, also features local artisans, and live animals.
Be sure to dress warmly. We always love the free cookies and cocoa after the 40 minute walk. This event is held every December. Make this part of your families tradition.

Pokemon Go is almost everywhere and Ottawa is no exception. You see people, mostly youngish ones, walking around town or driving their friends about town. Popular areas are downtown, churches, parks, historic landmarks, etc. to participate in this game at. I don't pretend to understand the stops, the gyms, or Pokemon themselves even. But it is easy to see that Ottawa is a "hot spot" for engaging in Pokemon Go! So if this is your thing, perhaps you grew up when Pokemon was popular in the 90's, then get to exploring Ottawa; just don't forget to watch where you are walking and smile at fellow gamers.

Ottawa University was founded in 1865 and is a wonderful campus in my hometown. I am fortunate because I have a great view of it from my home. There are 25 undergraduate disciplines and numerous graduate options. The university also operates four adult campuses in Kansas City, Arizona, Wisconsin and Indiana with a total of 7,000 students in person and online. Ottawa University is a member of the NAIA and competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAC) on 21 different varsity athletic teams. The Ottawa campus is southest of downtown Ottawa and I love having this asset in the community.

The corner of First and Walnut in Ottawa isn’t much to look at, but if you are a rail trail enthusiast, a fitness buff, or just someone who likes to enjoy the great outdoors this intersection is the place to be. It is the intersection of two rail trails. The Prairie Spirit Trail terminates there. It is a 51-mile trail in the state park system running to the south with the southern terminus in Iola. The crushed limestone trail is great for walking, bicycling, and is suitable for wheelchairs.

The intersecting trail is The Flint Hills Nature Trail, operated by the Kansas Rail Trails Conservancy. The trail runs 117-miles from Osawatomie on the east to Herrington on the west. It is still under construction in places but is suitable for horses and mountain/cross training bicycles. Any day of the week you will see families, joggers, and serious trail enthusiasts enjoying the trails. I enjoy a walk in the evenings on the paved portion in town where you can run into old friends and catch up on what’s going on in Ottawa.

Keim Bakery, at 304 S. Main Street, has been owned and operated by Tony, Beth and Brady Keim since 2010. This is my favorite breakfast spot! The pastries are fantastic and the traditional breakfast offerings are very good. The staff will make you feel right at home and after a couple of visits, will know you by name.

My favorite breakfast is a half order of biscuits (made from scratch) and gravy, and an Americano. The next time you're in downtown Ottawa, stop in and enjoy some great food. You just might see me there!

There is always something going on in Ottawa. The Downtown Third Saturday is a regular event, the Garden Show, Ottawa University activities, the Ottawa Municipal auditorium and lots of upcoming art shows. This is my hometown and I would encourage you to look at the CVB website and then give me a call. I'll give you a personal tour.
