The Kingsridge Subdivision Real Estate And Homes For Sale In Kirksville, MO

Kingsridge used to be a 120 acre farm back in 1972 until good friends Frank Wayman and Vernon Searcy had an idea for a subdivision and an unlucky hand. Wayman and Searcy played a weekly card game with Doc Gardner and Buzz Adams who wanted to build a commercial building in the subdivision, also. The friends could not agree on a price for this commercial building site and were $5,000 apart. Frank decided they should settle it once and for all a play one game of 5-card stud poker and the winner would win their price on the building site. All in agreement, Frank dealt the cards; he and Vernon lost to Doc and Buzz with a pair of 3's. Those 3's are on a bronze plaque inside the entrance of the commercial building that now sits at the entrance of Crown Drive and Queens Road.

Frank and Vernon proceeded to build the subdivision, Kingsridge, which today is a desirable family neighborhood. Kingsridge's unique name came from the brand of sports coat Frank was wearing. He proceeded to name the streets after chess pieces: Crown Drive, Queens Court, Bishop Drive, Pawn Drive, Rook Drive, Knight Drive, Knights Court and Castle Drive. The subdivision's two popular entrances/exits are Queens Road, off of Highway 63, and Kings Road, off of New Street. The iconic lions at the Kings Road entrance were found by Wayman and Searcy while vacationing in Chicago. They knew they had to have them, so they rented a horse trailer to haul them from Chicago to Kingsridge where they still are today!
