Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita is celebrating 50 years of award-winning attractions. An exciting wildlife park since 1971. There are nearly 400 animal species at the zoo. Wichita residents, along with visitors from other towns and states, help the zoo rank as the number one outdoor tourist attraction in Kansas. My favorite exhibit is the graceful giraffes, and my husband's favorites are the rhinos. Our entire family spent about an hour at a meet-and-greet feeding the rhinos bananas and petting them like we do our dog!

Benjamin Hills is one of the many beautiful housing developments near the zoo to the northeast and along I-235. To the north of the Zoo are several beautiful homes in Barefoot Bay and condos in the Peninsula Subdivision. South of the Zoo and Sedgwick County Park you will find more beautiful homes in Spinnaker Coves.

While driving thru Old Town today, the trees drew me to the Keeper and the River. All seasons make the Arkansas River a site to enjoy. Then on to see the beautiful trees and flowers at Botanica and Arthur B Sim Clyde Golf Course and last, another shot of the Arkansas River at River Boulevard and 13th Street.

Whether you enjoy long walks in the parks, jogging along the river, all the restaurants and bars in Old Town - you will love being in Riverside. So many wonderful neighborhoods in this area and beautiful older homes with many stories to share.
  • I went in and actually spent an hour with the doctor. No waiting, no office fee, and although he is going to run some tests later, not a bunch of those either! They filled my prescriptions right at his office for prices that were so low you wouldn't believe. Every time I tried to see other doctors they always want a bank of tests, I have a follow up in two weeks, and that will be $12 for blood work, all for the monthly fee.
  • Bricktown Brewery is a great local bar and grill. It's the perfect spot to enjoy drinks and early dinner. Excellent staff, beer, food, and atmosphere!

The new location is easy to find. Stop and enjoy a great Mediterranean style meal. It offers a great atmosphere and friendly service. You'll tell your friends!
  • A local playground designed for children with disabilities may be expanded. The Sunrise Rotary Club of West Wichita is planning renovations to the Sunrise Boundless Playscape in Sedgwick County Park. The possible additions include a hedge maze, a natural play area, a small running track and a shade area. This is the park my children grew up in and I love that the tradition is carrying on for hundreds of other families!
  • Jose Pepper's has the best warm chips and salsa! Located in the northwest area of Wichita at the 21st Street north and Tyler Road. The menu is sure to please! The staff is always friendly and ready to serve. After being seated then they'll bring out the best salsa hands down and they taste like homemade thin chips, really yummy! Then, after your tummy is full, head over to the IMAX Warren Theatre that's located right behind the restaurant. This makes for a special day on the town in Wichita!
  • Wichita has so many amazing events throughout the year and especially in the summer. Many of the events are featured downtown in and around Intrust Bank Arena and Century II. Living in Wichita allows for big city fun with the small town feel!!!
  • I've lived a very routine life here in Wichita and been perfectly fine with it, but as I have aged, I've felt the pull to do something out of the ordinary. Do you know what I mean? Something not-so-commonplace, another check mark on my "bucket list"? Well, believe it or not, Wichita does offer those opportunities, if you're willing to look for them. Here's one example:

I am afraid (make that petrified!) of heights and always said that anybody who intentionally jumps out of a perfectly good airplane is NUTS. Well, you can now officially call me "NUTS". For my 60th birthday my husband bought me a gift certificate to Air Capital Drop Zone, located on Cook Field near Wichita (between Derby & Rose Hill). My first words were, "What??? Skydiving??? Are you crazy???" However, after much thought and a promise from a friend to go with me, I decided I didn't want to be so ordinary anymore. Suffice it to say, something I had feared my whole life turned out to be one of my most exhilarating experiences ever. I do believe it has changed me, made me more willing to take chances.....except when it comes to eating exotic foods, but that's a story for another day.
  • Sedgwick County Park is located at Zoo Blvd and I-235. Bike and walk paths are located throughout the park. Tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds and pavilions are available to reserve for family barbecues. Yes, you can cook lunch or dinner right there for your get-togethers. One treat for those fly fishermen is during the fishing season when they stock trout in the streams! I always think that even if we aren't in Colorado, it sure is nice to have the opportunity to go fly fishing in Wichita. This is a wonderful family park with a variety of fun waiting just for you!
