The old FEMA maps were paper maps created 20-30 years ago. In 2003, with aging flood control infrastructure and extremely outdated flood maps across the United States, Congress required FEMA to update flood hazard maps. The efforts used the latest data and technology to identify current flood risks. You should also research and consider buying flood insurance - your mortgage lender likely will require it.

FEMA floodplain publications, booklets, and brochures may be obtained by contacting the Planning and Zoning Department at 620-694-2978 or see the attached link.

I just moved here after being in the Navy for over 12 years and I have never felt more welcome. Hutchinson is a smaller town than most I have lived in but has a huge heart. Everyone is very friendly and I love the restaurants I have been to. Hutch Fest was the first big event that I participated in and it was pretty cool. The fireworks display was amazing in itself. I would recommend Hutchinson to anyone.
