  • It can take more than Covid-19 to stop Peter Pan. Did Captain Hook do it? The Jefferson City Home Educators presented "Peter Pan" for six different performances on July 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, and August 1. Thursday and Friday's performances were at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday was at 2:00 p.m. The cost was $7 opening night and $10 for all other performances.

    Families from the same household were able to purchase a family pass for $36. The JCHE or Jefferson City Home Educators produce one to two shows a year as local homeschoolers share their talents for stage design, singing, acting, and dancing. This year the production was at the Stain Glass Theater on High Street. The Stain Glass Theater is worth checking out on its own as they produce family-friendly productions all year long. This production of Peter Pan was something the entire family enjoyed.

    Jefferson City High School's homecoming weekend was kicked off with their annual parade on September 22! It began at 6:30 pm, as the homecoming parade marched through the streets of downtown Jefferson City. The sidewalks were crowded to show Jay-Pride, enjoy student-made floats and performances from the band, cheerleaders and dance team. Adkins Stadium hosted the Homecoming football game against Rock Bridge High School on September 23. The homecoming activities were a success as spectators grabbed a spot in the stands, wore red and black and helped cheer the Jaybirds to victory!

    Vendors from all over the Show-Me State gathered on September 10 to sell their creative creations during the 40th Annual Cole County Extension Fall Festival. For one day only, nearly 165 vendors filled Jaycees' Fairgrounds with items such as home decor, food items, yard art, jewelry, leather and wood-working, clothing and more! The fair will ran from 8:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. with a $2 entrance fee for visitors 13 and older! All proceeds raised at this wonderful event went towards the extension programs and building. Don't miss this great event next year!

    On September 7, take a dive into Missouri's history through a virtual tour along the beaten path of the Trail of Tears at the Missouri State Museum. The free virtual adventure will begin at 7:00 p.m. and take visitors on an exploration into the three paths that the Cherokee paved after fleeing their home in the southern states. The program "Museum After Hours: The Trail of Tears in Missouri," is part of the monthly event "Museum After Hours," that is held the first Wednesday of every month. Exploring the Capital Building can be enjoyable for kids and adults alike with it's plethora of historical information, interactive exhibits and tours.

    September 10 will bring the streets of Jefferson City to life with the sounds of smooth jazz and colorful sidewalk art by participants in the Capital Street Art Fair's Chalk Art competition. Winners will be awarded with cash prizes. Even if art isn't your thing, head downtown with friends to admire some of the wonderful creativity Jefferson City has to offer.

    Most residents are familiar with the abandoned brick ruins of the Missouri State Penitentiary and the gruesome stories behind its walls, but few have stepped into the shoes of its past occupants until now! On September 3, residents will get the chance to find out what it's like to escape from the prison during Jefferson City's 5th Annual Prison Break Race. Competitors will be placed in a dungeon within the prison and have to escape through a housing unit onto a tricky 5+ mile obstacle course. Sign up today and hope the warden isn't watching when you make a break for it!

    On August 24th, Lincoln University's "BlueTigerFest" will host a free event for students and citizens in downtown Jefferson City to ring in the new school year. The event will kickoff around 6:00 p.m. with a warm welcome from Lincoln University and Jefferson City officials, with musical performances by LU's choir and the "Marching Musical Storm." A scavenger hunt through downtown will begin at 7:00 p.m.; the event will end in a block party with free ice cream available to students who show their ID. Head on out and show your stripes in support of our local Blue Tigers!

  • Historic cemetery walking tour of Woodland-Old City Cemetery will be held on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to raise funds to replace broken/missing tombstones. You can access through the National Cemetery on McCarty. The event is hosted by The Cemetery Resources Board of the City of Jefferson and the Friends of the Governor's Mansion.
