The month of April has come and gone. We saw the amount of Independence homes under contract go up more than 15% from the previous month. This means we see the spring market blossom.

Deciding whether or not to buy a home is a complex decision that depends on various factors, including your financial situation, housing needs, and the current state of the real estate market. While it's true that historically low-interest rates and a shortage of homes for sale in some areas have made it a good time to buy a home for some people, it's important to carefully consider your own situation before making a decision.

Here are some things to consider when deciding whether now is the right time for you to buy a home:

Your financial situation: Can you afford the down payment, monthly mortgage payments, property taxes, and other expenses associated with owning a home? Do you have a stable income and job security?

Your housing needs: Are you planning to stay in the area for a while? Do you need a larger home to accommodate a growing family, or are you downsizing?

The state of the real estate market in your area: Are homes selling quickly? Are prices rising quickly?

It's important to research and work with a knowledgeable real estate agent to help you and your family lay out your personal goals for buying a home!

Mugs-Up Drive located right off 23rd Street in Independence is worth your drive time from anywhere in the Kansas Metro. When I lived in Columbia, MO (Go Mizzou!) my friends would pick a day and all go treat ourselves to Black Cow in town (aka Root Beer Float) and a burger. It is not the healthiest place to eat but those burgers are second to none. The carhops still take your order, deliver your food and all with a smile...Go with your honey, kids, or friends, and check it out for yourself. It's a definite treat!!!

Smokehouse BBQ is located off 39th Street across from the mall. The restaurant has an extensive menu and you don't just have to be a BBQ lover to eat here. Their menu includes, of course, BBQ but also, shrimp, steak, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wings, and more. The staff was friendly and attentive, I would recommend checking it out.

I was just a little girl when we lived in Independence. I lived in a little house across from Saint Mary's. I remember we were too close to the school to ride the bus so we had to walk. Walking to school back then was an entirely different situation. It was just me and my brother and sister walking every day six blocks to school. We attended Bryant Elementary and it was a great little school. I am sure there is no teacher there that I know. I can see some pictures and recall my good times there. It is a great school to get an education. I miss those days walking and attending there.
