Leawood, Kansas is a Kansas City suburb located in southeastern Johnson County and has a population of 31,867. It is served by the award winning Blue Valley School and Shawnee Mission School Districts. All five Blue Valley high schools were named to the Washington Post’s list of America’s most challenging high schools, accounting for half of the Kansas schools making the list. Incorporated in 1948, Leawood quickly became known for its lovely residential neighborhoods, excellent schools, and beautiful parks and still known for those qualities today. Over the past several years, the city has added many retail and office developments, including Park Place and Town Center.
What an excellent new restaurant in the Cornerstone of Leawood. The doors opened June 20th and we decided to head up there this evening for dinner (better late than never, right?). Keeping in mind I have a five year old, here's what we tried....cheese pizza (my five year old expert said it was "really yummy", turkey burger and fries (hubby said it was awesome), and a KC Strip with baked potato (I say this was darn good). My steak was locally raised and very tasty, well marbled and cooked a perfect medium. Hours for Barley's Brewhaus are 11AM - 1:30AM daily. Just for the record, they're known for their huge selection (66 BEERS ON TAP) of beer as they are part of the larger organization, KC Hopps Ltd., I had iced tea :). I love the reclaimed barn wood from an 80 year old barn in Emma, MO, whiskey barrels and Edison style light fixtures. The atmosphere was relaxing, the service was excellent and we will definitely be returning. If you're in the area, or just looking for a new place to try, I highly recommend Barley's Brewhaus!
