I met a longtime friend in downtown Lee's Summit for lunch the other day. We chose a little restaurant on 3rd street called 3rd Street Social. I parked on the street right across from the front door! When I first went in, I noticed right away that it was a continuance of the rustic charm and cozy atmosphere of downtown Lee's Summit; exposed brick and high ceilings with modern touches of elegance.

I ordered the Korean Tacos made with the most tender bulgogi! The first bite was an "eye roller"! I thought about it all day. Oh, and the wait staff was very kind and attentive, but respected our privacy. Meal was out in about 10 minutes. Prices were reasonable, too. I will definitely be going back! I grew up in Lee's Summit and so appreciate all of the hard work the city has put into revitalizing this area!

With growth there will always be growing pains. The City of Lee’s Summit is finding this transition to hold true as many residents of this city are seeing big box developments take place in many parts of the city. Unfortunately to some residents it’s going to be a tough growing pain for those who are used to the quietness and manicured lawns. But I can unequivocally and emphatically proclaim, that neighborhoods continue to remain pristine and thrive more than ever before which is an enormous attraction for newcomers.

As a local resident myself, I’ve seen lots of changes since moving here just over two years ago and I can say that although Lee’s Summit is surpassing 90,000 in population, this has lured a large number in diversity that adds flavor to the city and also a well-rounded quality of life fulfillment.

So, to my City of Lee’s Summit, I say embrace change and lets be risk takers! It will only make our city and our communities shine that much brighter.

Yesterday after the rain finally stopped and we saw a glimmer of sunlight; we set out for downtown Lee’s Summit which I feel is a top attraction as compared to most surrounding cities. Lee's Summit downtown offers many varieties of locally owned eateries, shops, art galleries and neighborhood cycling shops.

Something new to me was discovering the stationary music area where you can play music; well at least in my case, attempt to make music sounds.

A notable mention about the Lee’s Summit Downtown Area; Main Street in Lee’s Summit received the 2019 National Main Street Accreditation in April 2019 which is the highest achievement for revitalization that a downtown can receive. Go Lee’s Summit!!

I live in Lee's Summit and today was our annual Tour de Lakes cycling organized ride which covers five lakes, Longview, Raintree, Lakewood, Blue Springs and Jacomo, and passes through the cities of Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Greenwood and Blue Springs.

What makes this ride so popular rain or shine which we experienced both today; everyone comes together as one. No matter your level of skill-set for cycling, or the type of bike you ride, it doesn’t matter. It’s about getting out, being active and having fun during the event.

I often speak with people before, during and after the event. Today, I met a young man new to cycling. He stated this is his second year and went on to say last year he didn’t finish the 59-mile route but this year he did! He was very proud and I congratulated and encouraged him to keep it up and stay consistent.

Tour de Lake just doesn’t bring out the Kansas area metroplex, but I met people from Denver and Detroit which goes to show that the City of Lee’s Summit as well as the Parks and Recreation Department puts their best foot forward. Great work Lee's Summit!

The cemetery was founded 1865. The original land was donated to what at the time was called the Town of Strother by William B. Howard. Land was acquired and added on through 1907. Among the residents are many Civil War Veterans, Quantrills Raiders and influenza victims from the 1918 outbreak. The cemetery's most famous resident is Cole Younger who was buried in 1915. Younger was part of the James-Younger Gang and rode alongside Jesse James. The city does an amazing job decorating for Memorial Day and Fourth of July.

Jack Stack has been a fixture in the Kansas City BBQ community. I was so excited when a Lee's Summit location opened up in 2015. Like the other locations it is a wonderful place to grab lunch or dinner. The staff is friendly and engaging. The wings are amazing. The sandwiches will fill you up and the cheesy corn is to die for. So glad we can get our BBQ fix closer to home.

Downtown Lee's Summit has so much going for it. It looks like more people/organizations are starting to take notice! The Downtown Lee's Summit Neighborhood was just recognized as one of the three best neighborhoods in Missouri. This is a great honor in deed! With an increase in businesses, jobs, and improvements made to sidewalks, lighting, planting of trees, addition of new buildings, and renovation of existing buildings, the area has become attractive to many. This recognition is well deserved.

If you are looking for a new date night dinner spot check out Third Street Social. The owners of Summit Grill have opened another restaurant in Downtown Lee’s Summit. This is scratch comfort cooking at its best; also venture over to their Seafood restaurant Pearl Tavern. I’m big on non-chain restaurants and these are three totally different places owned by the same people.

Have you ever considered sending your dog to daycare? Or need a great place to board your dog or cat? What about grooming needs for your pets? Summit Pet Care far exceeded the expectation on how they love their fur clients! The doggie daycare has a large outdoor play area with things for the dogs to climb on, play chase and fetch, as well as just socialize with lots of other dogs. There is a nice size indoor play area for those bad weather days too. They have an extensive area for boarding, with options of having different size runs, some that have outside access and the ability to house dogs together from the same homes. There is also cat boarding, along with other types of animals boarding options. Such a loving place for your furry friends!

This is a wonderful senior community in Lee's Summit. Super close to all your recreation, shopping and medical needs. My mom was fiercely independent and private and was very against moving into a senior community. After a very harsh winter we convinced her to take a winter stay there. She loved it so much she stayed for the two years before she passed away. Those two years were some of the most active of her life. She made wonderful friends and even won a few Wii Bowling tournaments. I cannot recommend this place enough!
