When you pull up to this school, you are just in awe that the once gathering place of Loula Long Combs is still alive with the excitement of young kids. I am so happy that the Lee's Summit Historical Society and the Lee's Summit School District chose to make this piece of history a true wonder for our community and a great place to teach education to young minds. This school feeds into several subdivisions, New Longview being the closest and offering just as much charm as the school.

  • There has been lots of talk lately about the boundary line changes for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year and how the schools are going to be impacted. Many families who have been affected by the boundary line changes due to where they live are feeling a bit anxious. That is typical with change. However, the LSR7 School District is award winning for a reason. All the schools have great teachers/staff, have the same curriculum, and have wonderful resources available to them. You can't go wrong, I believe they are all exceptional! If you are wanting to see a map of the boundary changes, see the attached link.

As a new parent to Mason Elementary, I am wowed by all of the clubs and extra-curricular activities are available to students. My third and fifth grade sons will be trying the Computer Coding Club this year as well as my fifth grade son in the Archery Club. Also in fifth grade students take band or orchestra lessons during the day at school. There are also book clubs, student council, birthday book club, and new student groups, Reflections program, and ecology club that students may participate in as well. I am excited for my children to be exposed to multiple activities and experiences and see how they flourish!

I'm not sure how many of you watched the Friday Night Lights series on Netflix, but I must admit it in one of my all time favorites! It is amazing how a community can come together through sports. The LSR7 School District has three high school football teams: Lees Summit West High School, Lees Summit North High School, and Lees Summit High School. Even though my husband and I have three daughters, we went to so many high school football games to support our neighbor's children, friends of the family, my children's classmates, etc. Not just the football players, but the cheer and dance teams and the marching band. It was the place to be on a Friday night to support each other and come together as a community. It was definitely one of the highlights of things we did while our kids were in high school. We still even go on occasion with friends to support the current students. If you haven't had a chance to go to a local high school football game, please do. It is something that you just have to experience!
