As a recent Platte County R-III Highschool graduate, I have a sense of insight that is more relevant than it might be for an older counterpart. In this school, safety and respect are held at a high standard. There have been safety situations concerning the students that staff and support had to face and made quick decisions in the moment. As an attending student, I was never put under the impression that the school or its employees were not under control at all times. This alone is a major advantage for Platte County to have as, unfortunately, there can not be the same guarantees at other schools and districts due to cracks in the foundation of their safety. To be a part of the Platte County real estate is to highlight and appreciate the goodness in the school system here.

Platte County Schools are outstanding. I have several friends who are teachers there and they are so dedicated and really care about providing a first class education to students. Their own children go there, so of course they want the school district to be the best! Pirate Stadium is first class for the football team, the swim team has an Olympic size pool at the YMCA they can utilize for swim meets, etc. There are so many clubs and activities for students to participate in. So if you are looking for a great place to live with great schools, Platte County is not to be missed!

Replacement of the football field turf at Platte County High School's Pirate Stadium has started.
The Platte County R-3 School District says the high school track and football field will be closed to the public during this process. School officials say the turf replacement will take about six to seven weeks, with a planned completion date of July 22nd. The old turf was installed 11 years ago, and, fortunately, the gravel base and drainage system under the turf is intact and does not need to be replaced.

    Platte County School District
Platte County R-3 School District is well into the construction of a new elementary school, and building additions, and re-structuring of existing facilities in response to a steady growth trend.

Compass Elementary is a brand new facility at 401 Kentucky Avenue in Platte City. It will house up to 700 kindergarten through 5th graders when it opens this fall.

Pathfinder Elementary at 1951 NW 87th Terrace in Kansas City is getting a 21,000 square foot addition which will accommodate more scholars with 14 classrooms, a multi-purpose room and more parking. Pathfinder will house kindergarten through 4th graders during the upcoming school year, but not enough land exists for the necessary expansion to handle fifth graders (at least at this time).

However, Siegrist Elementary, located in Platte City at 1701 Branch Street will become a kindergarten through 5th grade school. The intent is to expand the number of grade levels in each elementary school from housing only one or two grades to the preferred kindergarten through 5th.

These changes are intended to deal with over-crowding at some schools and an overall doubling of students district-wide from nearly 2,000 to about 4,000 during the past 20 years. And the future shows steady growth projections for the entire district.

Also in the plan is a restructuring of the current 49,000 square foot Paxton Elementary School that will allow it to become part of Platte County High School. Predictions indicate that the number of seniors that will be graduating from the high school will grow to 350 in seven years from the 250 that graduated in the Spring of 2015.

Platte County R-3 schools are growing and making the changes to accommodate that growth!
