Woodland Place Area Insight

  • The culvert replacement project is under way at Quivira Dr and Park St. The City of Shawnee, plans to replace the steel culvert with precast concrete. This project is necessary as the current steel culvert has rusted through. While they are there, they plan to replace the culverts under Park St as well.

    Weather permitting the city anticipates it will take four-eight weeks to complete. Road closure begins September 3rd. During this time, Quivira Dr will be completely shut down north of 54th Terrace to Park St. Residents off of Park St. will have to take 51st Street to travel east or take Albervan St. through Hidden Valley Subdivision to travel south.

    If you travel this route often you will notice this project is already under way! The casualties of these necessary repairs are the beautiful trees that used to line the streets and give meaning to the subdivision name,"Woodland Place". Now you will notice the barren landscape. City is said to restore, curbs, sidewalks, streets, install sod or seed and some trees.

    I have lived in Woodland Place for over 10 years and love the area. Great neighborhood with active community events including Halloween parades, Fourth of July parties, Christmas pot lucks and other fun activities. The community pool has a separate baby pool plus plenty of play space surrounding the area. Homes vary in price from the low $300's to over $400. Many homes have walkout basements, back to greenspace or to small creeks. Most are located on cul-de-sacs with wooded areas behind.
