I love Prairie Meadows in the fall. Being mostly built in the 1980's, the homes here are surrounded by tall trees, and that makes for a gorgeous autumn season. October is a great month in Prairie Meadows, and in all of Lawrence, because it's when most of the trees go from being full and green to all sorts of orange, yellow, red, and purple before the leaves fall to the ground. Rainy days are followed by the sunshine, and the air has that feel of change and electricity. It's my favorite time of year to go running and enjoy the cool weather and the beautiful landscape. Some people fear the coming of the cold, but I love the switch in seasons, and this neighborhood is a great one to watch it all change!

Prairie Meadows is the neighborhood my wife and I call home. Located in a quiet pocket of town right by the Holcom Park Complex, virtually anything you need is just around the corner. I've often told people that I can look out my back window, and it's hard to believe we're in the middle of a city. The trees are tall and help create a quiet, bucolic setting, with all the conveniences south Lawrence has to offer, like shopping, restaurants, and recreation just minutes away. You can find me running through the neighborhood on just about any day, rain, snow, or shine.

Prairie Meadows is a great neighborhood for pets, and we've observed that it is a part of Lawrence many dachshund owners call home. We have our dachshund, Rigby, our neighbors have two that guard their backyard, and you can't go a day without seeing someone walking one or two of their own down the streets.

Prairie Meadows is a sister neighborhood to nearby Indian Hills, and shares many of the same features: Quiet streets, beautiful trees, minimal traffic, convenient location, and nearby amenities.

Holcom Park is a large recreational facility located at 27th and Lawrence Ave. It offers a variety of recreational activities and houses a full size basketball court, racquetball and handball courts, a game room with billiards, foosball, and ping pong, a weight room and workout facility, while the outside portion of the park offers plenty of open green-space, baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, playgrounds, and covered open-air event space. During warmer months, it is host to a popular local kick-ball league along with the usual baseball and softball leagues.

Prairie Meadows is another one of my favorite neighborhoods in Lawrence. For many years I took my kids to go trick or treating there just because the home owners get really involved in the holidays. It reminded me of the movie ET when they dressed ET up as a ghost and dragged him around for Halloween.

In the middle of Prairie Meadows is Holcom Park, home to one of the city's recreation centers. They offer exercise classes and yoga, a full basketball court, a racquetball court, game room and work out room all free for the residents. Holcom Park also has four baseball fields and any summer night you can sit in the bleachers spitting sunflower seeds and watch a game or two.
The location is also ideal, just south west of the intersection of Iowa St and Clinton Ave. (Clinton Ave is also 23rd St and turns into K-10 to the east) Close to KU, close to shopping and easy access to 59 Hwy just makes Prairie Park a nice place to live.
