Lincoln Perk is a coffee shop with the kindest people and a relaxing aura. You can almost always expect to see friends grabbing a coffee and chatting in the mornings or families gathering for a sweet scone in the afternoon. This place is more than a coffee shop to the people of Hesston. It is a place of rest, a place of community, and a place of joy.

If you are looking for a place to live, Hesston offers quite a few options considering the size of our town. The locals call this development "The Gated Community". There is rod iron fencing all around, since it is located next to the Golf Course. There are currently lots available to build your single family home on. There are however, duplexes and triplexes located more in the center of the development surrounding some tennis courts and places to sit and relax.

  • When my husband and I moved to Hesston, we thought we would give it five years before we would move again. Well, it has been over 25 years. My husband enjoys working in the same town that he lives in. We have raised our four children here, knowing that they had good schools with top notch teachers, plenty of extra-curricular activities, and wonderful friends. There are lots of walking paths and sidewalks that we enjoy using in the evenings. For a small town with approximately 4000 people, there are so many extra amenities that we have here: five churches, an arboretum, parks, tennis courts, a grocery store, restaurants, a wellness center, a pharmacy, medical and eye doctors, a college, banks, a public library, a lumber yard, a hardware store, an antique store, a donut shop and other unique stores. We love it here.

Hesston was established in 1886 as a village with the post office being in Elivon. The post office was renamed to Hesston on Dec. 16, 1887. Hesston was founded and named after the Hess brothers where the train depot on the Missouri Pacific Railroad was built. By 1912 Hesston had grown into an important shipping and receiving point for farmers throughout the region.
Many of the early settlers were Mennonite farmers. In 1909, the Mennonite Church founded Hesston College in the town. In 1981, the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains was founded on 13 acres which today is a tourist destination for schools, visitors and wedding parties. It showcases more than 600 varieties of native vegetation, walking trails and a pond. Today, Hesston is home to approximately 3700 people. Hesston has good schools, parks, hiking/biking trails, businesses, churches and a wonderful community spirit.
