I just received an update that there are over 50 people in the UCM library parking lot and Sheppard Park located in Warrensburg collecting Pokemon. My daughter has discovered several jewels while she was out. This is a popular game.

I have been informed there have been many spotting's of Pokemon in the Warrensburg area. Several have been spotted around the UCM campus, specifically near the gym and bowling alley. My daughter caught two in our house today on the north side of Warrensburg. We are on the watch for more as they are surrounding the area.

Tommy Cooper asked me, "What is the best advice you can a give first time home buyers? You know, the one thing that people need to be aware of when they're buying their first home."

The first thing I would recommend is before you start looking at houses talk to a lender. It's not cool advice or sexy advice but it's very important. A lot of first time buyers find it very intimidating but there is nothing to worry about and it's actually pretty simple. Take two tax returns, two months pay stubs, and months bank statements and go to your bank and speak with their loan officer. (1) It will help you know what you can afford. Then you aren't looking at homes that are below what you qualify for or more then what you can afford. (2) It helps you get the house you want because the buyer will look at financing when considering offers and if you are pre-approved and the other buyer is pre-qualified they will be inclined to accept your offer. (3) The scariest part of buying a house is finding out what you qualify for. Once that's out of the way the rest is fun!

Delilah Nichols asked me "Do you always recommend buyers to get the house inspected by an independent agent regardless of the home's age?". My answer is that I would strongly recommend getting an independent inspection from a certified inspector. I like to say everyone knows something but no one knows everything. There are many things a good inspector will look for that your average home buyer just wont think of.

According to The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), most people will only buy a new home on average of every 13 years making it very difficult to know all the current trends and ordinances. A home inspector will have extensive experience evaluating buildings and actively work to stay current on trends in construction, maintenance, and zoning. So yes, I would definitely recommend getting a certified inspector to inspect any property you are considering for purchase.

I take my son to the Warrensburg Community Center almost every weekend. It's right next to a beautiful park with playground equipment shaded by big oak trees and wonderfully maintained baseball fields. In the community center itself they have an indoor track, weights, exercise equipment, basketball courts, and our personal favorite, an indoor swimming pool! It really is an excellent facility. Plus, they have all kinds of programs from sports leagues to dance classes for children and adults. To top it all off it's also very reasonably priced. If you want to check it out I've included a link for times and admission information. If you are looking for something fun and healthy to do, this is the place to start your search!

The First Place Home Buyer Program is near and dear to my heart. This is a Missouri government program to help first time home buyers with their down payment. As always you will need to qualify and the requirements change from time to time but the basic idea is the state of Missouri will give you up to 3% of the cost of your new home for the down payment. Because this is a grant you don't have to pay it back. If you are trying to get your first home and you live in Missouri "please" do yourself a favor and see if you qualify. It costs you nothing to check and could save you thousands of dollars on your first home.

You can't beat the price; $12 for adults, $10 for military, and students are $5, kids 5 to 12 and under for free. You can also buy a pit pass for $30 and meet the drivers. Racing starts at 7 p.m. and usually wraps up around 10 p.m.. Food and drink prices are also very reasonable. Come on out and support a Warrensburg tradition every Saturday in the summer.

Blind Boone Park is a very pretty and quiet park withing walking distance of downtown Warrensburg. I love to take walks with my wife to see the new spring flowers and to learn about the city's history. It has public bathrooms, a picnic area, one of my favorite sculptures, and a lot of history. A new addition to the park is a push button tour guide system. Take some time and check it out.

Spectators came on out Saturday night, April 16, to see some good old boys working the dirt track of Central Missouri Speedway! Hot laps started at 6:00 pm and races started at 7:00pm. Opening day also featured the best in show for the car show last week. In addition, it was Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce Day so all chamber members received a discount at the gate. One of the cheapest forms of entertainment you will find!

Luigi's is my favorite Italian restaurant here in Warrensburg. The service is good, the food is better, but you can't beat the atmosphere. I have tried about half the menu and I have never been disappointed. It's at 121 E Pine St. which is right downtown. There is always something going on in downtown Warrensburg and it's within walking distance of the University of Central Missouri. It can be a little hard to get to because it's on a one way street but it is worth the effort. When you stop by tell them Nolan sent you!

Cave Hollow Park is a great place to relax near old downtown Warrensburg. There are a couple of baseball fields, a dog park, and my personal favorite is the walking trail. The walking trail goes up a ravine with small cliffs rising up on either side of the trail with a stream running down the middle. It's a very pleasant area with high trees and lots of wildlife. Every time I walk the trail it's a new experience with something new to see. I hope to see you walking the trail.

I eat out a lot and love doing it. Sometimes it's hard to find a good salad bar in a small town. Well "Soup & Salad" is a great little restaurant. I really like to eat lunch here. Their name says it all. They sell soup, they sell salad, and they do it really well. They have just about anything you could want to put on a salad and a very good selection of soups also. If you get the chance check them out!

It's located in the Northpark Shopping Center next to Ace Hardware

I love going to The Roundabout Cafe. They have a 50's decor, great burgers, and amazing shakes! My favorite thing to get there is the fried pickles. The food is good and the staff is friendly. It's located between Aldis and The Carmike Cinema so it's a nice place to grab a snake or a shake before a movie or after shopping. It's open from 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday and 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. If your'e in the area I recommend stopping in.
