Rising out of Johnson County's sweeping farmland, it's hard to miss the towering concrete structure just north of Holden, MO. Resembling a medieval fortress, the unique Miller Mausoleum is truly one of Missouri's best road-side stops. Built as the final resting place for his family, Joseph Miller began construction in 1917 and completed his monument in 1927. Nearly 104 years later, the site remains in family hands and continues to be a point of attraction for Mid Missouri locals and travelers alike. Following an extensive renovation of the building in 2017, the Miller Mausoleum was added to the National Register of Historic Buildings. This must-see site is yet another example of rural Missouri's amazing architecture and rich history.
  • Great small restaurant in Downtown Holden! Using a wood burning brick oven they crank out incredible pizza, calzones, and baked pastas. They also have really good salads. The pizzas are varied with great combinations and toppings. I had the Thai Chicken with Sweet Chili Sauce Pizza. Delicious and a hint of spice, not too hot. The crust was crisp, thin and hand tossed. The small pizza was very filling and more than enough for one person.

The salads are good, and the pasta dishes are great. They have make your own pasta or pizza choices. As for a small restaurant, it is not enough seating for large crowds, but good for the family or a couple. The owner was very personable, remembers the patrons and welcomes the new customers. They don't have a beer or wine license, but hope to have b.y.o.d. in the near future. If you are in town, or a local, you must try 2nd Street Bistro!
