Lace-up your skates, and hit the ice at the Washington Park Ice Arena. They offer instruction for all ages and abilities. They even offer homeschool skate lessons, which makes a great P.E. credit. You can figure skate or speed skate.

Last year I got to watch the turkey bowling, which consists of players sliding a frozen turkey across the ice and knocking a target. If you need a good idea for a birthday party, this is a fun way to celebrate. Don't forget to hit the concessions and get a pretzel or my favorite - popcorn. If skating might not be your thing, the ice shows are fabulous. And "hint, hint" guys, they make a great date; it was my first date with my hubby. So go and cool off at the Washington Park Ice Arena.

Near Binder Lake, there is a wonderful little flying field known as Joseph Miller Park. My family loves to go and watch them fly! A permit is required to use the field. The pilots there are always so friendly and nice about answering questions about the sport.

Many people don't know that Jefferson City has a community remote control car track. It is located in North Jefferson or "Cedar City". It has a lookout deck so you can watch the action and see the entire track. The track was once maintained by a local remote control club. After the 2019 flood, the dirt has been reshaped. It's a great place to try your racing skills or if you are like me just keeping it on the track would be an accomplishment.
  • Jefferson City Memorial Airport has a great FBO (Fixed Based Operator) business known across the skies as Jefferson City Flying Service. Pilots are greeted with friendly smiles as they fuel up, get maintenance work done, or park for a visit to Central Missouri. JCFS has weathered several floods and has a rich history of its own. JCFS is also a great place to learn how to fly with some great instructors. JCFS adds a lot to our community in service as well. Children have been given tours by JCFS that have inspired flying in their dreams as well as sponsored a lot of community events including fly-ins, airshows, etc. There are some exciting renovations coming as they have survived yet another flood last year. If aviation is an interest of yours you will want to check out Jefferson City Flying Service.

The gorgeous fall colors are starting to peak! One of my favorite ways to take this in is to take a ride on the Katy Trail! Don't have a good bike to ride? Not a problem! Red Wheel Bike Shop is now located near Capitol Building and near the Bike Bridge to cross Missouri River Bridge to access Katy Trail Route! Also, a train ride to Hermann is an inexpensive way to soak up the sites of the Midwest in full fall glory, and great food and events are offered in Hermann in abundance this time of year! We're happy to help point you in the right direction if not sure where event schedules are.

Riverside Park already has so much to offer with newer playground equipment and spacious acres of open rolling fields for kids to run and play. Rubber tread has replaced the old ground mulch. There is a gorgeous river view overlook, open air amphitheater, softball/baseball fields, and now the swimming pool has multiple upgrades!! Already the most spacious for lap/open swimming but it now has a new slide, toddler frog slide that my boys just love, sprinkler shower flowers and more! The size and layout of the pool make it convenient to be near and have a watchful eye on the kiddos and also offers plenty of lounge chairs! They also offer lockers for storage, snack shop and host theme parties throughout the year! Our favorite is the Pirate Pool Party! It's always a blast!

Jefferson City has close ties with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Not only did the expedition pass through our capital city in June, 1804, but Jefferson City is also named after the president who commissioned Lewis and Clark. A lot of history can be learned simply by taking a stroll around the Capitol building grounds.

Just because it is cold outside doesn't always mean, "stay in where it's warm." Jefferson City's hills make a great place to gather with friends and family for some winter time fun. Sledding, ice fishing and snow ball fights can be had all season long.
