Downtown Ottawa is decorated with Christmas decorations and cheer. When you come to our town, you are welcomed by a giant Merry Christmas sign that hangs across the main street on the north and south ends of Ottawa. These signs have been used during the Christmas season for as long as I can remember. I have so many fond memories of driving up Main Street in Ottawa to see the old historical buildings, lit up with colorful lights, and the street corners decorated with little snowmen or Santa Claus. The light poles will usually have green tinsel or decorations hanging from them as well. When walking up Main Street, grab a cup of hot chocolate or coffee from one of the coffee shops on Main Street, and take a stroll as you take in the beauty of the lights.

Realizing that the magic of the season is upon us, we can take time to slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. The twinkling of the lights, the glow of the trees, and the hope in a young child's eyes this holiday season are what makes this magical. Happy Holidays!

The Old Depot Museum is filled with Ottawa and Franklin County history. This has so many fun facts about the history of this county. I have lived in the Ottawa area my entire life. The last time I was at this museum was when I was in elementary school!

When I walked in the doors of this museum, I felt like I was walking back in time. Not only because of the artifacts and photos and different pieces that are in the museum, but it brought me back to my childhood, easier and less stressful days for sure. I was happy to expose my two children to this today. As it's in our hometown, we took advantage of this great museum that we have right at our fingertips and within walking distance.

I urge anyone that is visiting the Ottawa area to definitely stop in and walk through the museum; you will be surprised and come out with a lot more knowledge of what Franklin county History really is. Thank you, Ottawa, for keeping this museum for us so we can pass this along to our children and generations to come.

The streets are quiet, and the cars are silent. There are no children laughing, no adults are talking on their cell phones. Our Main Street looks and sounds like a stranger. No one is walking up and down our sidewalks to go meet up with their friends for coffee.

The town has slowed down and turned quiet. We support our restaurants that continue to deliver and do curbside pickup. We are going through such a difficult time right now. What we need to know is that we are looking out of our windows at home and waiting for this to pass. We are waiting for things to turn back to normal if there is such a thing. Let's stick together to beat this virus so that we can go out and enjoy our community, family, and friends once again. Stay strong and safe.

A teen park, what a great concept that has finally come to light in Ottawa. This is an exciting time for the youth of Ottawa as they now have a place to go play basketball and use the skate ramps! This park will give the local youth a place to hang out and spend time with friends. This is also a great addition to the community because it not only provides something fun to do, but it shows that the city cares and wants the youth of Ottawa to have a safe and fun place to hang out and even get some exercise. The park is off of 15th street to the south, directly across from another park in town, Kanza Park. I know that I will be taking my kids to this great park for some fun time, we might just wait until it warms back up a little bit!

One of my favorite memories of the holiday season while growing up in Ottawa, was the Christmas Parade. The smiling faces, the cups of hot chocolate and the loud horn of the fire truck. These are the sights and sounds that come to my mind when I think of the annual Christmas Parade. I was always excited yet nervous when the fire trucks would go by. "How cool is that big red fire truck," I would say and then, just about that time, the loud horn would honk! The local bands that marched and played their music brought joy and smiles to the crowd. The end of the parade was always special, as Santa Claus made his appearance. At the end of the parade, a walk down Main Street and lunch at one of the local eateries was a perfect end to a great time in downtown Ottawa! It was when I was a child and still is today!

I absolutely love attending the annual Toy Run for kids in Ottawa. This event brings bikers and community together to collect toys for the less fortunate this Holiday season. Bikers line the main street and spectators watch as the toys and bikers cruise up Main Street. This is an event I look forward to every year. Let's get out there and support the kids in our community!
