This is a hidden gem! Lakeside Nature Center is a great way to learn more about some of Missouri’s local wildlife, including birds, snakes, amphibians, turtles, fish, and invertebrates. The center is free but donations are accepted. Lakeside Nature Center also takes in injured wild animals and helps to nurse them back to good health. You can also experience the wonderful walking trails as you enjoy the outdoors.

Kansas City is a great place to live! The greater Kansas City area has so much to offer: commerce, sports, connections, culture, history, innovation, opportunity, and a shared experience that no other city can offer. There are dozens of niche neighborhoods and entertainment spots which makes Kansas City feel like a small town. Kansas City, a choice and a statement.

Opening in the fall of 2013 the Miller Nichols Learning Center joins the pre-existing library on the campus of the University of Missouri Kansas City. The facility encompasses four large auditoriums as well as flexible class room space to encourage both collaborative and individual study. Miller Nichols was the son of JC Nichols who developed the Country Club Plaza as well as numerous surrounding neighborhoods in the first half of the 20th century. Miller believed that every great city deserves a great school, and thus fostered his motivation to develop, and champion UMKC as a first class institution in the mid-west.

Unbelievable! Thelma's Kitchen is not something you hear about every day. It gives me so much hope in this world. Thelma's Kitchen has good food, good atmosphere, good workers, and good customers. The most important thing is that it spreads goodness!! Customers come in and pay an affordable donation amount of either $10 or $7 for a great tasting and filling meal. If you don't have the means to pay this amount, which many of their customers do not, they can donate any amount they can afford. For some of the customers who can't afford to donate any money at all, they can help out in the kitchen or help clean inside the restaurant or do some work on the outside of the restaurant.

Thelma's Kitchen just recently opened and has been busy ever since! You will find only home-cooked meals. Thelma's Kitchen gets all their food from local farmers and local growers. You can find a variety of items on their menu including sandwiches, soups, salads, meatball subs, and more including gluten free and vegan options. They are open from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Please, if you have the chance, stop by and support this amazing restaurant that spreads so much goodness to others. It's one of a kind! Along with an amazing children’s area with floor-to-ceiling windows offering great views and ample natural light, The Plaza Library Branch hosts a wide variety of youth related programs including, Tales for Tiny Tykes, Young Actors Workshop, and the Stone Lion Puppet Theater. With a full service coffee shop, and a year-long speaker series, this is a great destination for families in the neighborhood to spend time together during all seasons.

This is a quick, off the cuff video about what makes the Northland special. It's not a comfortable subject, but its relevant to buyers who are migrating from one distinct neighborhood to another. I'm proud of the sensible, professional, and compassionate policing that happens here. Some employees of a few local store fronts reached out to help a fellow who was obviously experiencing psychosis and couldn't tell where he was. The police came very quickly and the fellow was apprehended safely. I think its fair to note that I've seen this suffering class along the streets and intersections in the wealthiest sections of the metro. What impressed me here was how well this situation was handled.

The Kansas City Zoo is a great place to spend an afternoon with family and friends. There is plenty to see. The zoo does a nice job of promoting the appreciation and conservation of species of wildlife. Some animals you can see at the KC Zoo are the orangutans, bears, giraffes, penguins, elephants, tigers, and lions. It is a wonderful place to educate yourself more about the wonders of the natural world. Be sure to check out the daily animal shows and zookeeper chats. You can also enjoy the optional zoo rides such as the African Safari, Carousel, Zebra Tram, train, and boat rides. Enjoy a day outdoors in nature.

This is a great area of Kansas City. I attended this concert at Rosehill Gardens, 311 E 135th St, Kansas City, MO 64145. Somerset Winery from Paola, Kansas, has their second location in this beautiful space. The music was lovely, and there was a nice amount of people there to enjoy the wine and music. They have happy hour on Friday nights and are open Saturday and Sunday afternoons with live music. Great place to sit and relax and enjoy a glass of wine/beverage. The owners of the winery are warm and welcoming!

I have been a Kansas City area resident for over 40 years and I still can't get enough of this beautiful city. It may not have mountains and oceans, but it has so much more! Kansas City has a great atmosphere, wonderful vibe, exceptional people, amazing festivals and the most delicious food!! Whether attending a sports game and cheering on our KC Royals, KC Chiefs, or Sporting KC, or enjoying the sites around town such as Liberty Memorial, Union Station, Crown Center, or the Country Club Plaza you will feel at home. You can spend a day at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, attend a concert at Sprint Center, or take in all the talent at the Kaufman Center for the Performing Arts and just feel so inspired. There is just so much to enjoy about this great and diverse city. I just love it!
  • What a great program! On the first full weekend of each month in 2018, Bank of America or Merrill Lynch cardholders can get free admission to the World War I Museum and Science City, as well as many others across the nation. I just read about this and think it's a great idea!
  • This looks very interesting! I'm not able to go this Saturday, but this house would be very cool to see. Built in 1955 by the Zimmerman family, the house displays influences from both Japanese and European modernist architecture. See the link for more info about the tour.

  • I'm really looking forward to this festival on Sunday. I've been a couple times before and always really enjoy the performances. This year, I'm hoping to go to a presentation on beautiful saris, as well as one on chai tea. I love chai!

Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament is back at the Sprint Center this weekend. Great games ahead. Who will win it this year - KU, K-State, or Texas Tech? It's always exciting when something unexpected happens.

This exhibit looks so cool! I can't wait to see it. Works of art created solely from Legos, by Nathan Sawaya. The photos look so interesting. It will only be here until the end of May, so don't wait to see it.

The Workhouse Castle is located at 21st and Vine in Kansas City. It was built in 1897 as the city jail. The prisoners were expected to work; the women sewed the prison uniforms and the men labored for the City's public works department. The prison itself was built by the prisoners with limestone mined onsite. The jail closed in 1924 and was used as a wedding venue, for Marine training and for city storage among other uses before being abandoned in 1972. Just a little of the fascinating history to be found around Kansas City.
  • The National World War I Museum is an interesting place to visit. Liberty Memorial provides awesome views of Kansas City, but the museum itself has several exhibits designed to educate us about World War I, also known as the Great War and War To End All Wars. When I was there a few years ago, there was a simple, yet very moving exhibit of poppy flowers denoting American lives lost during WWI. I recommend this museum for an outing, to learn more about this war and its repercussions.

Since opening its original location in Fort Worth, Fuzzy’s has expanded making its way to the Midwest and planting a location right here in Kansas City! Their Baja style tacos will leave you breathless, because you will most likely eat too many, haha.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has a full menu of “texmex”/Baja choices. You really have got to try the Shimp Tempura tacos! With fried shrimp, garlic sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, cilantro, and feta, (or made to order) they are hands down the best. Don’t forget to top them with Fuzzy’s Butt Burn’n Sauce, it’s truly the icing on the cake! If you like to step it up a notch, they now offer them in California Heat, adding bacon, avocado, pico de gallo and sriracha-lime sauce.

Fuzzy’s also offers large TVs for catching your favorite sports games and cold adult beverages to go along with those tacos.
  • This looks like another great event at the Nelson! Chinese dancers, acrobats, music, calligraphy, games, and so much more. This event takes place on Sunday, January 28, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in multiple areas at the Nelson. 2018 is the Year of the Dog in the Chinese zodiac. This event will be a fun and interesting way to learn more about Chinese art, history, and culture.

Spring training starts in mid-February. First game is March 29 at home vs Chicago White Sox. I can't wait for the new season to start. The Royals Stadium is awesome. The game experience there is excellent, with great views of the field and a fantastic crowd.
  • I went to this exhibit last November and hope to go again before it is done in April. It was a wonderful experience, to see this beautiful art and learn what inspired Picasso.
The Nelson is a lovely place. I visit a few times per year and wish I could go more often.
