There is an octagonal home in Kansas City in the Crestwood neighborhood that just absolutely stands out. Some refer to this as the Nichol House, which was built in 1964, by the well-known architect Bill Goff, for the Nichol family..The home also has large octagonal windows. The style of this home is known as organic architecture and has many people drive by to see this unique structure daily. At the center of the house is a great room that features an original Sputnik like satellite. The home also has a hexagonal sized swimming pool on the property.

The Kansas City Chiefs are hot, hot, hot right now. They are starting the season 4-0 and have great chemistry with a young and talented quarterback who is breaking NFL records! Arrowhead Sradium has always been a great place to experience professional football.

The Chiefs fans are like no other! Game day is an all day event! The true Chiefs fans are at the stadium four hours or more before game time for tailgating in the stadium parking lot and barbecuing (which you can smell a mile away) and just hanging out with family, friends and other Chiefs fans.

Arrowhead is already known as one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL and I have a feeling the fans are going to outdo themselves this year. Everyone is excited about the season! Definitely try and go watch a Chiefs game this year as I am confident you won’t be disappointed.

At the corner of 21st and Vine you will find what is left of a medieval-style castle that was built in 1897. It was originally built as a jail known as the “workhouse castle”. The name was given because prisoners at the jail were expected to work during their time in prison. The women typically sewed prison uniforms, while the men were expected to do work for the city public works department. The jail closed in 1924. Since then the building has been used for other things about a dozen times, including a Marine training center. The building was finally abandoned in 1972. Today, you can see that the Kansas City Workhouse Castle is crumbling apart. However, it has become a location where graffiti abounds everywhere. What was once a beautiful castle is now a shadow of its former self.

The Kansas City Zoo is a great place to visit on any given day. However, another great reason to visit the zoo during the first three weekends in October from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. is to experience the fun of Hoots and Howls. They have some spooky, but not quite scary, activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

You can try and make it through a hay bale maze, take a fun ride on the Scare-o-cel, sing along to songs with a DJ, ride on a pedal tractor, create some exciting crafts in the lobby, or take an adventurous hay ride around the zoo. Some of the zoo animals are even getting involved by smashing pumpkins throughout the day. Come visit the Kansas City Zoo to participate in this wonderful event.

Faukner’s Ranch is just about the best place to go if you’re looking for an extraordinary experience in a pumpkin patch. They are celebrating their 20th season and it seems as if they outdo themselves each year! You wouldn’t think a pumpkin patch would be a great place to purchase food, but I often hear people rave about their BBQ and also their pumpkin spice donuts. There is no lacking of attractions as they have over 20 fun filled activities for you to enjoy. Some you can appreciate are their hayrides, field maze, pony rides, petting farm, and Scarecrow-K. They also have a wide assortment of quality pumpkins to purchase. If you are looking for a venue for a corporate event, wedding, or birthday party, they offer packages that might just be just the fun outdoor experience you have been looking for. Faukner’s Ranch just seems to be getting better and better!

I was surprised to find out that Swope Park is actually bigger than Central Park in New York City. Swope Park consists of about 1,800 acres which is actually twice the size of Central Park! It is Kansas City's largest green space that includes soccer fields, several golf courses, scenic hiking trails, the Swope Park pool, ball fields, picnic and fishing areas, and an amazing treetop adventure park with zip lines and obstacles. The park also includes Starlight Theatre which is a spectacular outdoor venue that hosts musicals and concerts, Lakeside Nature Center where you can learn about native wildlife to Missouri, and the Kansas City Zoo which has world-class exhibits and attracts not just locals but people from around the world. Swope Park is a great place to explore!

I believe that Kansas City is one of the best sports towns with some of the greatest fans!
Kansas City is not a large city, by population, compared to the amount of big cities in the continental United States. However, we have an abundance of local sports teams to cheer on!
Our three major sports teams have all won championships!! We have major professional teams in the Kansas City Royals (baseball), Kansas City Chiefs (football), and Sporting Kansas City (soccer). We also have other sports teams that have many fans that support them: The Kansas City Comets (indoor soccer), Kansas City Mavericks (ice hockey), Kansas City Phantoms (indoor football), and the Kansas City T-Bones (baseball). If you enjoy watching sports, be sure to check out any of our sports teams and show your support!

202 acres of family fun. The zoo has a live webcam that you can follow and see what is happening - like the polar bears actions or even sometimes the birth of a new little one! Become a member of "Friend of the Zoo" and get a discounted rate with your family pass. Well worth it as it quickly pays for itself. And don't forget to hop on the sky safari (modified ski lift) to get a breathtaking view!

Boulevard Brewing Company is one of the many breweries in Kansas City! It is a fun place to visit; the "new" beer hall and tasting room is so much bigger than the original one. On Sundays they have Bingo you don't want to miss, with great fun and prize giveaways. The beer is yummy and there is always something new to try. If you are visiting Kansas City Boulevard it is a must see!

If you haven't been, stop by and have a delicious meal at one of the best Kansas City Mexican restaurants in the metro! Los Tules is at 1656 Broadway right off of the I-70 and Broadway exit. I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and it hasn't changed a bit! Make sure and ask for the "chile con queso" which is not on the menu! Comes with three flat crispy corn tortillas smothered with cheese, chunks of pork and red sauce. We make the drive from the Lee's Summit area just for this wonderful dish! And the prices are as great as the food!

This is a hidden gem! Lakeside Nature Center is a great way to learn more about some of Missouri’s local wildlife, including birds, snakes, amphibians, turtles, fish, and invertebrates. The center is free but donations are accepted. Lakeside Nature Center also takes in injured wild animals and helps to nurse them back to good health. You can also experience the wonderful walking trails as you enjoy the outdoors.

Kansas City is a great place to live! The greater Kansas City area has so much to offer: commerce, sports, connections, culture, history, innovation, opportunity, and a shared experience that no other city can offer. There are dozens of niche neighborhoods and entertainment spots which makes Kansas City feel like a small town. Kansas City, a choice and a statement.

Opening in the fall of 2013 the Miller Nichols Learning Center joins the pre-existing library on the campus of the University of Missouri Kansas City. The facility encompasses four large auditoriums as well as flexible class room space to encourage both collaborative and individual study. Miller Nichols was the son of JC Nichols who developed the Country Club Plaza as well as numerous surrounding neighborhoods in the first half of the 20th century. Miller believed that every great city deserves a great school, and thus fostered his motivation to develop, and champion UMKC as a first class institution in the mid-west.

Unbelievable! Thelma's Kitchen is not something you hear about every day. It gives me so much hope in this world. Thelma's Kitchen has good food, good atmosphere, good workers, and good customers. The most important thing is that it spreads goodness!! Customers come in and pay an affordable donation amount of either $10 or $7 for a great tasting and filling meal. If you don't have the means to pay this amount, which many of their customers do not, they can donate any amount they can afford. For some of the customers who can't afford to donate any money at all, they can help out in the kitchen or help clean inside the restaurant or do some work on the outside of the restaurant.

Thelma's Kitchen just recently opened and has been busy ever since! You will find only home-cooked meals. Thelma's Kitchen gets all their food from local farmers and local growers. You can find a variety of items on their menu including sandwiches, soups, salads, meatball subs, and more including gluten free and vegan options. They are open from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Please, if you have the chance, stop by and support this amazing restaurant that spreads so much goodness to others. It's one of a kind! This is a quick, off the cuff video about what makes the Northland special. It's not a comfortable subject, but its relevant to buyers who are migrating from one distinct neighborhood to another. I'm proud of the sensible, professional, and compassionate policing that happens here. Some employees of a few local store fronts reached out to help a fellow who was obviously experiencing psychosis and couldn't tell where he was. The police came very quickly and the fellow was apprehended safely. I think its fair to note that I've seen this suffering class along the streets and intersections in the wealthiest sections of the metro. What impressed me here was how well this situation was handled.
