The New MIC Campus is scheduled to open in August of 2017. Located on Tudor, it will be just a short walk from Lee's Summit North High School. Jazzy B's Diner, located at 1803 NE Colbern Road in Lee's Summit, brings delicious BBQ and other tasty items on the menu. This business first started with their food truck several years ago, then they opened their restaurant last year and they've been rolling non-stop. Some of their most popular menu items are the Brisket Tacos, Pulled Pork Sandwich and Drunken Shrimp Po' Boy sandwich. The Jazzy fries, seasoned with cinnamon, are a real delight, too!

Along with the great food, this family-friendly establishment has impressive jazz memorabilia throughout such as jazz albums, vinyl records, photographs, etc. They also have an upper-level area with a large flat screen TV so patrons can watch sporting events while dining with family and friends. Most importantly, the staff is very friendly and treats you as if you are a part of the family.

I wanted to share with you a great place in Lee's Summit to take your pet to get groomed and bathed. Groomingdales has been a part of Lee's Summit for over 10 years. The owner, Mary Happy is still personally involved in the care and grooming of all her clients pets. She has recently updated her location to have more space for the dogs and add more work stations for her professionals to groom. The lobby is a friendly relaxing environment and there is always someone ready to greet you at the desk. I usually am able to make an appointment within two to three days of when I call. They are very accommodating to my needs and they are able to get all three of my dogs in on the same day if I want to bring them all in. Also, they are just blocks away from the dog park in Lee's Summit, so I can sometimes take my dogs there for an extra treat after their grooming.

  • This sounds awesome for this area! There is a 400 million dollar massive development that is coming to Lee's Summit. Its purpose is to be a youth sports complex and an entertainment district. It's said it will be comparable to Kansas City's P&L District, the Country Club Plaza, and the newer Prairie Fire in Overland Park. Developers are naming this area, "Paragon Star.” The five points on the star represent recreation, office, dining, entertainment, and lodging. The location will be near the Blue River. Visitors can utilize the youth sports complex with 10 soccer fields on the east side of the river.
  • Lee’s Summit has a really neat downtown area that is not only historic, but eventful. There are over 45 specialty stores, nice local restaurants that offer all different types of cuisine, a farmer’s market, and you can even ride a train! The weather is getting nice so it is a great time to go down there and explore.

Have you ever had a pizza that was so good that you wanted to come back over, and over again? You will with Spin! Neapolitan Pizza! This is a hometown must try.

Spin! Neapolitan Pizza, was founded on a very basic restaurant concept: Provide the best wood-fired pizza possible, and become your favorite neighborhood pizza place. It certainly is mine! They also embraced another basic concept - providing fast service with a quality dining experience. They do this by having customers place their order at the front counter, then sit down for a more full-service dining experience. The stores have been fashioned after a more contemporary style pizza restaurant, with many locations, featuring an urbanized feel. The decor is concrete floors, exposed brick, and wood tables and counter tops.

Founded in 2005 by Richard and Gail Lozoff, and Ed Brownell, (co-founders of the Bagel Shop that would eventually become Einstein Bros. Bagels), Spin! - a Kansas City hometown company - has exploded from one location in Overland Park to ten KC Metro area locations. They are slated to open their 11th KC area location in Liberty later this year! Not only have they seen rapid growth in the Kansas City Market, but they have franchised and have opened stores in four other markets: including Omaha, Dallas, San Francisco, and Orange County, CA! But they keep their roots (and their corporate headquarters) right here in Kansas City!

Spin! is absolutely famous for their brick oven pizza creations. But, even if pizza isn't your favorite meal, there is still plenty to choose from with soups, salads, sandwiches and antipasto creations on the menu as well. Finally, you would be doing yourself a major disservice if you allow yourself to leave without a cup of their own homemade gelato (Italian ice cream) on your way out! Our local Spin! Neapolitan Pizza location is in Lee's Summit at the SummitWoods Crossing shopping center just off of Highway 50 and Chipman Road, just south of I-470.

On the eastern edge of Lee's Summit is Legacy Park, one of the largest community parks and local sports venues in the Kansas City metro area. There is a Community Center for holding meetings and community events. They also have a gym and workout facility. The park facility has a disc golf course, the facility houses the Lee's Summit Soccer Association, there are baseball/softball fields and a football field. For the little ones, there's also a park with playground equipment. This is definitely the place to be for the local sports enthusiast.

What I find interesting about the park is the road that winds around the park and the really neat signs that they put together to mark what sport facility you are at. It's a great way to get out in the community and meet other sports-minded people. You can learn more about Legacy Park on the Parks and Recreation page of the City of Lee's Summit website.
