English Landing Park is one of my favorite places to exercise close to home. I am a middle-aged runner with old knees, so I really appreciate that the park has a dirt path that goes easy on my joints. The trail covers a decent distance without having to retrace my steps, about 4.2 miles. This distance is achieved by running the outer loop in English Landing Park and then crossing over to the adjacent Platte Landing Park. I love that much of the trail goes right next to the river, which provides a great view. There are always walkers, bikers, runners, kids, families, and dogs enjoying what the park has to offer.

If you aren't necessarily looking for a place to get some exercise, the park hosts all sorts of festivals and concerts throughout the year. There is a playground for young kids right in the middle, with tons of shade. Sand volleyball courts can be reserved, as well as picnic shelters. For dog owners, there is a large dog park on the Platte Landing Park side, with separation based on dog size.

December 20th is the last day the Holiday Express will be at Union Station. It is a great family activity, where you can see Santa, write letters to Santa, and go through the Holiday Express. I took my family there yesterday, it really got everyone in the Christmas spirit, and the best part was there were no lines! Try it out!

Riss Lake is a the best kept secret around. It has so much to offer. I truly recommend this subdivision for your family. Amenities include pools, a lake, walking trails, and very friendly neighbors. I don't just recommend Riss Lake - I also live here!

I had my house built in August of 1996 and I raised my four children here. Today they are all professionals and I have five grandchildren that love to come and visit grandmother and go to the pool and play in the playground. It is truly a family oriented subdivision. I have truly enjoyed living here.

Spring has sprung and the fishing is red hot! There are a lot of big Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Walleye and Crappie being caught. The Riss Lake Fishing Club's efforts to build and manage a world-class fresh water fishery are beginning to pay big dividends. Several bass over 6 pounds have been caught and released and the Rainbow Trout that are stocked in the fall have put on pounds over the winter and are making their way to a frying pan near you!

Riss Lake is well known as one of the premier lake communities in the Northland. Our namesake is a 135 acre fishing and recreational lake that was built in the 1950's by the Riss family. The lake is surrounded by old growth trees, limestone shoreline and lots of wildlife.

When the water temperatures warm into the 40's and 50's, the fishing comes to life. All species of fish including largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, walleye, rainbow trout, channel catfish, blue catfish, readear sunfish and carp are found in abundance in Riss Lake. The deep channel (85 feet in spots) makes for an ideal fishery. Aquatic plants are abundant as well as a broad variety of bait fish.

The first species to target in the spring are white crappie. They make for some fantastic eating and fish average 11-13 inches in length. For sport fisherman, Riss boasts some of the largest bass in the area. Bass over 7 pounds are common and provide an exciting fight.

Remember, Riss Lake is a private reservoir. Access to Riss Lake is only open to resident homeowners and their immediate families and guests. Lake security is tight, patrolled by neighborhood watches, video and Parkville Police Department.
