One thing I love about living in Riss Lake is the proximity to so many different fitness options that don't involve a gym membership, most within one-three miles. The closest and easiest is, of course, Riss Lake itself. The lake is a great place to paddle board, kayak and canoe. If you are a runner or walker, just take a walk on the well-kept sidewalks. The hills in the neighborhood will give you a great workout! If you want to get out of the neighborhood, venture the very short distance south on Highway 9 to the Parkville Nature Sanctuary where nature's bounty surrounds the walking and hiking trails. The White Tail Trail is my favorite. Continuing south on Highway 9 will take you to English Landing Park which affords 4+ miles of walking, jogging and biking trails right along the Missouri River. A little further southwest from downtown Parkville will take you to the beautiful trails of the Green Hills of Platte Wildlife Preserve where dogs are allowed. The trail head for the Missouri Riverfront Trail is just west of this and connects to the Line Creek Trail for a fabulous 16 mile loop. I don't know too many places with these options!
