Do you love baseball? If so, check out the Junction City Brigade baseball team at historic Rathert Stadium. Starting in early June, the Brigade start their season in the Mid Plains League. Many players from colleges around the United States or those who just have a love for baseball come to play for our town. Enjoy sitting in the stands with a bag of peanuts or drinking a cold one in the beer garden. Many food options at low prices! June is annual Dairy Month and Hildebrand Dairy Farms offers an annual outdoor MOO-VIE Night on the farm free to the public each year. Every year be sure to head down to the area of Heritage Park for the Annual Christmas Parade. The day after Thanksgiving you'll want to see all the local businesses and organizations gather with holiday cheer! This year the theme is "Inside Santa's Workshop". Every year the YMCA holds a benefit auction to raise money for the facilities and their programs. Local businesses donate items to be auctioned off by a local auctioneer. The YMCA is a great facility within the Junction City area for our areas youth. With basketball courts, swimming pool, Zumba/Yoga classes, and work out equipment there is something for everyone in your family. The YMCA also offers youth basketball and youth soccer yearly for kids to participate in.

Every year the Thursday before Halloween you can count on bringing the kids downtown for the annual All Treats Day! Local businesses are present handing out candy for the kiddos after they take part in a small parade following behind the Junction City High School Band. Be sure to keep this in mind when Halloween approaches!!

Seven black granite panels stand tall bearing the names of 753 Kansans of all branches that were killed in action in Vietnam and another 38 Kansans are named that were considered MIA in 1987. Stars are beside the names of those whose remains have been found and accounted for. Many ceremonies are held around this memorial including the annual Run for the Wall. This memorial was dedicated on July 4, 1987.

Stop by Heritage Park and view the beautiful memorials. Memorials pay tribute to servicemen and servicewomen in the military and police services. Heritage Park was once used as a drill field in the Civil War era. Heritage park is also home to many activities to include festivals, weddings, concerts, and other community events.

Sundown Salute and the parade are exciting events to attend. All of Fifth Street, Sixth Street and Seventh Street were lined with cars. The parade route was from Eisenhower to Washington Street with floats and eager participants.

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, has been celebrated each year since 1865. The celebration includes live entertainment, gospel music, vendors, crafters, inflatable amusements for the kids, games, educational displays, food and beverages and so much more! The Geary Community Hospital Farmers Market has a wide variety of fresh locally-produced fruits and vegetables, eggs and cheese, jams and jellies, coffee and more! New for 2016, check out the monthly cooking demonstrations presented by Geary County Extension on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. through the summer months.

Jammin' in JC Blues & BBQ Festival is a great opportunity to get out in the public in mid September to try out some amazing BBQ and listen to some good ole' Blues music! BBQ'ers from all over the United States come to participate in showing off their BBQ'ing talents. If you're looking for something to do in mid September, be sure to come on down to Heritage Park!

Flint Hills Community Orchestra is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages and walks of life to come together and play string music. Anyone with previous or current string experience is welcome! Serving the Junction City, Manhattan and surrounding communities.

Over 100 vintage planes flew into Freeman Field in Junction City this past weekend. This is the sixth year for the fly-in, and many stated that it was the best one yet! Pilots from all over the country flew in and parked their planes for display. The public was able to walk the tarmac and view the many planes. Some were even able to take a ride in the sky. If you were around town, you could hear the skies rumbling with engines and even catch a glimpse of vintage aircraft. Look for next year's 2017 Biplane Fly In around June.

The 12th Street Community Garden is the first community garden in Junction City. What a great idea to teach our young people how to care for plants and grow food! It's located at the 12th Street Community Center. This garden was created through a partnership between the Flint Hills Regional Leadership Program, the Class of 2015-2016 and the 12th Street Community Center. Check it out!

We all love listening to the radio. Whether it be morning news on "The Talk of JC" 1420 AM or sports with your Kansas State Wildcats, St. Xavier Rams, and your Junction City Blue Jays. Eagle Communications services three stations: 1420 AM, 97.5 Power Hits and Q10 3.5. Each of the stations offer a variety of listening to delight all ages.

First, 1420 AM radio covers national and local news. They have a daily birthday club. Just call in and you can put a friend or family member's birthday on the radio! They have two other shows that are local favorites: "Swap Shop" and "Your Town". Swap Shop allows people to call in and put things for sale on the radio. Your Town features local citizens providing information on events or organizations. Next, Power Hits 97.5 FM offers more of your modern top hits radio. Finally, Q103.5 FM focuses more on country music fans. Tune into any three of the stations and enjoy a great listening experience!

The 12 Street Community Center is open to all members of the Junction City community. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. Saturday hours are 1:00-9:00 pm for the fitness center. On Sunday, the gym and fitness center are both open from 1:00-5:00 pm.

The 12 Street Community Center also offers a monthly calendar with several events. For the month of November, they're putting on a cheer clinic. They will also be holding a nutrition class to teach you simple solutions to help you and your family eat smart. Join the Azimuth Seekers and come experience the outdoors and enjoy the opportunity at a 90 acre farm. There you can learn about dependability, strength, adaptability, perseverance and purpose.
For the month of December, they're offering Christmas story time and a Santa's helper workshop. Moving on into January they will be starting coed adult volleyball, as well as a safe sitter class that helps babysitters learn how to perform infant and child choking rescue and they even learn CPR. Some of the fitness programs that are offered at the community center include yoga, classes for mothers and toddlers looking for a full body workout, Zumba and Step It Up. They have the fitness center and workout video classes as well.

Along with that monthly calendar they do have ongoing programs. There is a puzzle club which is a 55 and older club that meets 12:00-3:00 pm every Tuesday and the cost is free. Card Night is available for 55 and older every Thursday from 5:30-8:00 pm, which is free as well. Enjoy a walk for fitness program for any ages, Monday-Sunday during the times of the building operation. That cost is free as well. If you're looking to save money, they have a group called the Supersavers that meet weekly to make new friends, share deals and talk about their frugal Waze. I am so excited of the opportunities our community members are providing our youth. Travis Godfrey, current Cheer Coach with Central Christian College has brought competitive cheer to our youth in Junction City. He leads the competitive All-Star Cheerleading program at The Next Step Dance and Cheer Studio at 135 W. 9th Street. It is the start of sparkly uniforms, bows and the opportunity to travel across Kansas to compete for trophies! Next Step also offers dance classes including; jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, tap, pointe, and lyrical! Are you a sports fanatic? Come to Junction City!!! Junction City Brigade, is a summer collegiate team that plays at the historic Rathert Stadium. You will be amazed by the most historic baseball stadium in the Midwest. The Stadium was given a face lift in 2002. It is now known as one of the finest ballparks in Kansas. The Brigades bring in about 25 college baseball players to play approximately 34 games over the summer. It's a wonderful outing for the whole family. It boasts covered stadium seating for your enjoyment. More into the social side of it? There is also a beer garden with patio seating. In the beer garden you can enjoy a beverage of your choice, as well as food from local restaurants. This is one family outing you will sure enjoy!!
