Higginsville is my hometown! It is a small country community of fewer than 5,000 people. It is conveniently located about 45 minutes from the Greater Kansas City area and is just a few minutes from 1-70 and Kleinschmidt's Western Store.

This community has several educational opportunities for your children. There are two private schools: Immanuel Lutheran School and the Montessori Schoolhouse, in addition to the Lafayette County C-1 public schools. Higginsville also has a public pool, and several community parks, as well as the Davis Theater.

Additionally, there are several community events that occur throughout the year. Some of these events include the Higginsville Country Fair, Thanksgiving parade, Christmas parade, and Fourth of July fireworks display. There is truly no place like home.
  • You can't drive through Higginsville without taking a trip to Kleinschmidt's Western Store. Though the name might be a mouth full, this Lafayette County gem has attracted guests from all over the Midwest. Right off of I-70 at the Higginsville Junction, Kleinschmidt's offers a wide variety of high-quality western wear and gear. Nobody in the area tops their selection of work, western, or exotic boots. You'll also find unique hats, purses, belts, and home decor. This is a local business I enjoy visiting and highly recommend for your western needs! Keep a lookout on their website for awesome deals!

The 442d Fighter Wing Command Post members got together for our first annual volunteer event. We, and a few other volunteers, laid wreaths on the approximately 24,000 headstones of veterans and their spouses at Higginsville's Veteran's Cemetery this morning. A very moving experience.

With a population of roughly 5,000 people, Higginsville is a gem in the heart of Lafayette County. Less than an hour from downtown Kansas City, Higginsville is just north of I-70 and perfect for city commuters. Downtown Higginsville has plenty of cute shops to browse and a Walmart for all your grocery needs. Food options are diverse from amazing BBQ to Mexican. But most importantly, this beautiful small town is full of kind neighbors who always go out of their way to take care of one another. Higginsville embodies that true community feeling! Come see what this amazing town has to offer!
  • Have a love for history and nature? Look no further than Confederate Memorial State Historic Site in Higginsville, MO. Just north of town off Highway 13 and 20, this pristine 135 acre park occupies the original location of Missouri's Confederate Veterans Home. In operation from 1890 to 1950, this site provided shelter to thousands of veterans and served as their final resting place. You can tour the original home chapel, visit the site's cemetery, or learn more about Missouri's rich Civil War history at the visitors center, all operated by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. This park offers miles of walking trails and seven ponds for recreational fishing. Plus, the playground and pergola provide an awesome spot for family picnics. Come take advantage of this beautiful Higginsville spot!

Bring your lawn chairs and settle in for a fireworks display that is sure to not disappoint! The Higginsville Chamber of Commerce works hard to present a top notch family fun night on July 4th every year. There will be a band and youth entertainment leading up to the fireworks display at dark. This is one of the many reasons that Higginsville is such a great place to live and raise a family!
  • Jamie and I were talking today and an interesting subject came up. "I want to buy a house but I'm getting a divorce and it's not finalized yet. Can I buy the house without them getting it?". Like so many questions the answer is "it depends."

Missouri is a marital rights state, so if you buy a home while you are legally married, your spouse has rights to that property even if you have been separated for years. But, if your spouse is willing to sign a form from your bank/ title company relinquishing their marital rights you can move forward with your sale/purchase without them being involved further. There is a lot to dealing with a divorce or separation and I always recommend consulting an attorney before committing to a major legal or contractual obligation.

Have you ever wondered where you can take your recyclables in Higginsville? Well if so, the answer is to the Lafayette County Enterprises recycling location. It's right between their building on 19th Street and the fire department and across from the USDA office. We are fortunate to have an area where we can drop off glass, cardboard, plastic, and metal to help keep our environment clean and green.

As some would say "Santa's Coming to Town," the buzz around Higginsville right now is "Cockrell and McIntosh is Coming to Town." The community is excited to welcome the well known pediatrician group to our community. Their office construction is happening as we speak and set to open this fall.
