Need some room to spread out? Think Lexington! This riverside town was established in 1820, and many of the original antebellum homes are still standing today. Located roughly an hour east of Kansas City, Lexington offers quiet and calm living with plenty of shops, parks, and historic sites to explore. The Main Street District screams "small-town America" with its many antique shops, locally-owned restaurants, and Lafayette County's historic courthouse which is the oldest courthouse still in operation west of the Mississippi River. The business district to the south includes a supermarket, dollar store, and many chain dining options. Lexington has multiple parks throughout the town with walking trails, playgrounds, fitness activities, and spots for fishing. Lexington has seen so much growth over the last few years! One of these recent additions is Ten Twelve Main, a brand new bar and grill located in the historic downtown district. This quaint spot is housed in one of Lexington's early banking buildings and guests can enjoy a drink inside the old bank vault! There is plenty of seating on the main floor or you can head upstairs for a more intimate atmosphere with awesome views of the Lafayette County Courthouse. Ten Twelve Main has a great variety of craft, draft, and bottled beer as well as other fruitier drinks. Perfect place in Lexington to watch the Chiefs win!

The popular historic Lafayette County Courthouse, located in Lexington, is a talking point among locals and visitors alike. Built in 1847, at a construction cost of just a little over $14,000, this majestic courthouse overlooks the Lexington Downtown area. This courthouse proudly displays her wounds received in 1861 during the Civil War, when a cannonball was lodged in one of the columns of the front of the Courthouse. This cannonball is still present in the structure of the Courthouse and can be seen still today.

With the recent and unfortunate closing of Wentworth Military Academy and College, which has been in existence since 1880, many people are re-visiting the city's rich historic legacy. This is vividly shown all over the city in its homes, buildings, and businesses and neighborhoods.
