I traveled with the band this past weekend to St. Louis for the Bands of America Super Regional Competition. There were 74 bands competing over two days, We were blown away to make finals and placed 12th. I couldn't be more proud of these kids, they have worked endlessly on this show and it paid off. If you're looking to get that new trend of hairstyle, this is the place. These guys are up on the new trends from fades to beard sculpting. You get a professional high dollar look without the high prices, and that hometown barber shop feel. Oh, ever had a straight edge razor shave? They do that too!

Yesterday I decided to pay a visit to the Martini Shack on South 7 of Blue Springs and on Tuesday’s they have a 5$ martini special on specific drinks! The Cherry Cheesecake Martini was delightful. The decor in Martini Shack was very shabby chic and unique. What a great place to unwind for a drink or two with friends! Also, they offer limo rides home if you have one too many! So next time you’re looking for a hot new spot, check out the Martini Shack!

This place has it all! So many plants, flowers, veggies and herbs, classes and workshops to learn new things, a new local market with top quality meats and produce from local farmers. Pop over to Bean Counter Cafe and grab some unique and delicious lunch or a quick coffee! This is a family favorite. Soon they will have an orchard you can pick from too! And make sure to stop by around Halloween for the free hayrides and grab some pumpkins!

There are so many fun things to do at the Marina at Lake Jacomo! We rented a pontoon for a full day and had a blast with the kids fishing, swimming, and coving out. I didn't know you could rent a paddle boat, kayak, paddle boards, fishing boats, and canoes! You can also dock fish for a daily fee for only $4 for adults and $2 for kids 12 and under. Very reasonably priced and so close to home, it makes the perfect family outing in the summer or fall.

Talk about service! Jim & Brian do a great job of getting you in, even on short notice, and letting you know exactly what your vehicle needs without trying to up sell you items you don’t need. I personally feel taken care of each time I’m in, and that’s coming from 15+ years of prior experience in the automotive business. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!

This is a local, independently-owned banking community that has the best customer service. In particular, the North Blue Springs location has an amazing staff. I have never entered without being noticed, greeted, and recognized each time I enter, ever since the first time. Those humble beginnings that created this organization back in 1958 are what make this a great place to bank. It’s what helps create the atmosphere of genuine hospitality their staff offers every day. It doesn’t feel like a bank, but more like entering a friends home that provides banking service.

Listen, when it comes to ice cream, we all have a favorite. I happen to like custard over traditional ice cream since it doesn’t numb my taste buds and has a creamer texture. If you’re in the same boat as me, then you gotta try Custard’s Last Stand!

This place is my personal favorite! It was started by a local family and consistently offers an excellent product and service. I’ve never had a mishap with my order and it’s always delicious. They even have dog treats if you happen to bring your furry friend along!

The menu has an array of selection with most all your favorite candies & flavors. My personal recommendation is the Mudslide! Cappuccino flavor custard with hot fudge and Oreos.

Wow! Wow! Wow! This place is amazing! If you haven’t stopped by Nana’s Cafe yet, you are truly missing out. The name says it all folks. You will think you’re at your Nana’s kitchen table being served up a classic dish that you will eat until you can’t breaf! (Yes I said breaf cuz you’ll be so full you won't be able to pronounce the whole word breathe). The classic dining tables make you feel right at home. They have a clean facility, friendly staff and high quality food. Nana’s story is amazing as well, which she proudly has published on the first page of her menus. They serve up classic dishes such as Salisbury steak, open face Brisket sandwich, and breakfast is served all day. The menu has far too many delicious choices to list, and everything is local, organic, farm to table ingredients. Nana herself even came to answer our question about allergies in any of the foods. New to town since July 2017, Nana’s Cafe is waiting to show you what comfort food is all about.

The Brown Team visited Tony's Restaurant in Blue Springs for authentic, home-cooked Italian food!

Owners Don and Julie Williams enjoy bringing their family heritage from Sicily to you with amazing all natural ingredients.

Stop in to see them and ask them about their annual Community Services League outreach program and canned food drive for the Christmas Holiday. Each donation is an entry to win one of Julie's famous cheesecakes as seen in this video.

Do you know about State Farm Insurance in Blue Springs? It seems like many of us know about insurance agents, but how many of us actually know someone who has invested in their community for decades and continues to invest in the next generation by bringing in some bold young employees who work to understand our needs for insurance in 2017 and beyond? Agent, John Hardy at State Farm Insurance office in Blue Springs is one such agent who continues to offer great service and is willing to grow with the times.

Isn't this what Insurance is...a tool to manage the risks of life we encounter? And who doesn't want to realize their dreams? Someone once said "life happens." Perhaps this is why everyone needs to know a great insurance agent and office. I am thankful for insurance offices and agents like this right here in our community.
  • It was almost humorous how many times I was reminded (or reminded my children) not to look directly at the sun today. As silly and as obvious the instruction may have been, because under normal circumstances no one would, it was actually a very important instruction to have pounded into our brains as we prepared for today's total eclipse. Blue Springs was among the lucky cities that got to see the sun completely vanish for a brief moment at the peak of the day, and I am so thankful for the teachers and staff who were there to guide the children through the once in a lifetime event.

The whole experience reminds me of my first few deals as a realtor; I was licensed and well educated, but there is no way I could have gotten through them without the guidance and support of a professional team! There are things you just don't know when you are doing something for the first time. Period. That is why I love helping first time home buyers. I love the enthusiasm for the process, the challenge of guiding them through the new hurdles, and the joy that is nearly overwhelming as they finalize their first purchase. You can only buy your first home once. I hope when you do, you have a knowledgeable professional by your side. Just like the teachers in the Blue Springs school district who helped my son make an amazing memory today; one that he will remember for the rest of his life.

Here's a quick insight on a new place we tried out just down the road from our office. It's called Bethlehem Cafe & it's a Mid Eastern style food. Bethlehem Cafe is located at 1512 NW Woods Chapel Road in Blue Springs. The review on this one was slightly mixed.

The Chicken Shawarma was a little bit too much for one of us, but the Beef Gyro was really good. It was a nice change of pace from the food we normally eat. Our server was fantastic, talkative knowledgeable about the food and culture behind it. Bethlehem Cafe also has a very unique design inside. I love it when places decorate their walls to go along with the whole theme of the place. It really felt like you were sitting in a Mediterranean restaurant.
