As a former student at Blue Springs High School, I can say that my high school experience was a very successful one thanks to this school. The BSHS motto is "Win at Everything We Do," and winning they do well. With four football state championship wins over the past 20 years, and with the BSHS Golden Regiment Band having placed third at the Bands of America Grand Nationals in 2018, this school produces some of Missouri's best talents. Blue Springs South is a high school in the Blue Springs R-IV School District. It is located in the Adams Dairy area at 1200 SE Adams Dairy Pkwy, Blue Springs, MO 64014. This school has been rated above average in quality and college readiness. Blue Springs South has also earned a 2018 and 2019 College Success Award.

Lucy Franklin Elementary is an A+ school on the northeast side of Blue Springs. It is ranked at the 17th best elementary school in the entire state by niche. Check it out here.

High school kids that live in Timber Oaks will go to Blue Springs High. This school has a 24:1 teacher to student ratio and is one of the best in the state academically. They have a great music department and their band is one of the best in the country that will perform on a national level. It is also a top school for sports in the state.

The middle school for Timber Oaks Subdivision is Brittany Hill. At Brittany Hill they have an eighteen to one ratio of students to teachers which is a little higher than the national average. The school ranks well above average for best public middle school teachers in Missouri and public middle school test scores. This is one of the states best!

The elementary school associated with Timber Oaks Subdivision is James Lewis. At James Lewis they have a fifteen to one ratio of students to teachers and 88% of the teachers have three or more years experience. The experience and knowledge of the teaching staff is reflected by the far above average state test scores from the students. This is a top elementary school for the state.

A big thank you to everyone who voted yes for the levy to pass. They have started construction on Blue Springs South High School's old soccer field to replace it with an improved soccer field. This is one if many construction projects that will take place this year.

I traveled with the Jaguar Pride Marching Band to Washington DC where they got the honor to represent the state of Missouri in The National Cherry Blossom Parade. It was such an amazing time on Saturday. The kids were so excited to be there and their performance was phenomenal. What a great way to end this school year by having the honor to perform at the nations capital. Watch their performance from this YouTube link!!

I sat down with Mr. Hansen so he can tell you about our brilliant band program at South. Both of my girls are in band; one is an 8th grader at Moreland Ridge Middle and the other is a senior at South High School. I wasn't involved in band when I was a kid so I felt this video sheds light on the program and lets you to meet Mr. Hansen. Blue Springs South High School has an amazing band program! This is one of the band's ensembles The Wind Symphony. All of the kids in South's band have such passion for music and it plays out through their performances. Take a moment and listen to their performance!!!

Congratulations to the Blue Springs School District! Not only did they score a 100% on their annual performance report, they are also the home of a Missouri State Teacher of the Year.
With just under 2,000 employees, over 800 of the teachers have earned their masters degrees or higher.

Ranking #6 on the 2016 Best School Districts in Missouri, the Blue Springs School District offers honors courses starting at the middle school level. As for the high school level, over 4,000 students are enrolled in college courses, some even receiving associates degrees at graduation. The districts early childhood unit is celebrating 65 years of service this year! The district offers an early childhood center, 13 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, a freshman center, 2 high schools and an alternative high school.

As we enjoy the accomplishments of the graduates at the end of this school year; the next question is "what's next?" Getting a job, raising a family and possibly even moving to make that happen. Blue Springs is a perfect area with recreation, proximity to greater KC job market and a great school system to enroll your children. There are some dates coming up that are important to note. Administrative Professionals Week is April 24-30; Teacher Appreciation Week is May 9-13; School Nurse Day is May 11th. Thank you very much to our administration, teachers, and school nurses (we appreciate you helping the students with their medical needs). Being a former teacher myself, I know first hand how amazing, dedicated, and hard working all of these professionals are!

Graduation is almost here with the following district graduation dates: Valley View High School is May 17th; Blue Springs South High School and Blue Springs High School seniors graduate May 29th. Congratulations graduates! The first day of the 2016-17 school year is August 17th, so have a great summer!

Students of Britney Hill Middle School performed "Shrek Junior-The Musical" on November 13 and 14th. Many came out and supported this great school on the east side of Blue Springs. There was a Friday night performance at 7:00 pm and Saturday there were two performances; one at 2:00 and one at 7:00. Great job kids!

This is a breast cancer awareness fundraiser that will take place October 15th at Blue Springs High School. The teams participating will be Blue Springs Wildcats versus Blue Springs South Jaguars. Sponsored by the girl's volleyball's teams, all proceeds will go to a local family. All items donated will be in contributed to a silent auction to be auctioned off before and during the game. There will be games and activities to play. Girl's volleyball team players will be wearing pink in honor of breast cancer awareness. Also, roses will be presented to all breast cancer survivors in attendance.

I have had the pleasure this week to attend two vocal concerts, one at Brittney Hills Middle School and the other at James Walker Elementary. These events have had a great audience turn out and the kids have sung their hearts out. It makes one realize the importance of having a full educational experience. Math, Science, Language Arts and the Fine Arts. I am so happy to be a part of this district which continues to help fund all programs!

My family moved to Blue Springs at the beginning of the school year and primarily did so in hopes that the schools could provide a better experience for my three children. At first I was a bit worried as my oldest son prepared to start at Brittney Hills Middle School because the gifted program seemed to be far less than what he had in Odessa. However, after a few weeks I was so glad we made the move.

Brittney Hills has a wonderful Honors course program and the teachers really make the kids work. Matthew had a power point assignment due in the first week. But even beyond that, these teachers encourage him so much that he explores the subjects more indepth at home as well. Keeping a gifted child interested is a challenge and one I am so glad they assume well.

My youngest two attend James Walker Elementary and I am impressed with them as well. Dr. Flax is absolutely wonderful and my kids love him. So if you feel like your kids need more challenge in their education, Blue Springs in a great place to start.

Blue Springs School District is having its Mother and Son Dance on Saturday, March 21st. It will be at Blue Springs High School from 6:30-8:30 pm. It had been rescheduled due to inclement weather.

On February 13th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, you can help the students of Blue Springs South by buying a hand-crafted bowl of chili. When dinner is complete you get the specially designed bowl as a keepsake and a reminder of those children and families you have helped. A $10 ticket gets you a hand-crafted bowl, chili dinner and a ticket to the basketball game versus Blue Springs High School.

Blue Springs area schools top the list in education and sports each year.
