The Lakewood subdivision is a great place for a lifetime of fun! Located just off 291, it surrounds a gorgeous 365-acre lake that the locals adore. This subdivision contains both the Lee's Summit and Blue Springs school districts. This community is very active and always has something to do for the residents. The lake is a "no-wake" lake, so it's ideal for those who love peaceful days out on the boat. There is also a sandy beach people love to gather at to spend the day swimming, and if that's not enough, there are four swimming pools located in Lakewood! If that's not already exciting, there is a place for volleyball, golf, baseball, multiple park areas, and a clubhouse that can even be rented out for events. There are multiple clubs you can participate in, holiday events, and so much more. This subdivision is as lively as it gets!

This week's tip for Tuesday comes from Fernando Pena, a fantastic contractor. My brother-in-law first recommended Fernando to me after he renovated their kitchen, dining room, and living room. When I moved into my current home, I used Fernando to remodel my entire house! He and his crew painted the entire house, stained my kitchen cabinets and island and installed all the light fixtures. Fernando is truly a one-stop-shop for any home renovation you may need. He is reliable and honest in everything he does. He provides top notch service at a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend using Fernando for your next home renovation or repair!!!

On top of all of that, they have amazing craft beer!!! Their imperial stout, the Trail Dragger, won second place at the Denver International Competition this year, and is being released to the public this Sunday, August 4th! • July 31st is National Mutt Day! I interviewed Tonya Hampton-Lopez, the amazing volunteer director at the Regional Animal Shelter in Independence. The Regional Animal Shelter services all of unincorporated Jackson County, including all of Independence and Jackson County parks. This animal shelter is near and dear to my heart. I have become more involved with them since our first interview with Tonya last month, and am looking forward to begin volunteering with them this year. Before this interview, I did not realize how many ways there are to help animal shelters! I knew you could walk dogs, clean, foster, or adopt, but had never heard of what is called 'furloughing.' Check out the video below to find out how furloughing works and how you can help your local animal shelter! If you are interested in helping a great cause, send an email with your name, age, and interest to sheltervolunteer@indepmo.org.

July 27th is National Scotch Day! Celebrate this day by heading over to The W, a speakeasy-style bar in downtown Lee's Summit. The bartender, Taylor, is a master at creating the perfect drink tailored to your taste. If you are a scotch drinker yourself, The W has a special drink, the Hondo, with a 12 year single malt scotch whiskey, Cocchi Rosa, and a bit of peppercorn bitter to top it off. Although I am more of a vodka gal myself, I must admit that it was delicious! If you aren't totally ready to branch off to scotch, though, there are plenty of options that will be perfect for you. Taylor, and any other bartender that works at The W, will work with you to create a spectacular drink that compliments your specific taste. To make a reservation, text (816) 287-0000 with your name, party size, date and time of arrival. When you arrive, you have to get buzzed in at the secret entrance and follow a dark staircase upstairs before you enter into the lounge and bar area. There is also a patio through the side door that is perfect for these summer months! Make sure to call today to make your reservation!! The W is a must go location in the heart of downtown Lee's Summit.
  • Every Friday night, from 7:30-9:00 p.m., Lee's Summit holds a free music concert in Howard Station Park! These concerts started Memorial Day Weekend and will continue through Labor Day Weekend. This Friday, July 26th, Amanda Hughey, a local singer/songwriter, will be performing! These concerts are a blast to go to with friends, and are family friendly too. All you need to bring is a lawn chair, blanket, some snacks, and your favorite people! I absolutely recommend making this your next night out!!!
  • This week's #TipTuesday comes from Bee Organized, a company of professional organizers! The passion behind Bee Organized started when two mothers, Kristen Christian and Lisa Foley, began to exchange organizational tips with each other. Their passion for organization grew alongside their children, inspiring them to create a business where they could use the skills they had learned as mothers to help everyone around them! Now, they have grown from one location in Kansas City to having franchises in Dallas and the San Francisco Bay area as well. Our community is blessed to have Bee Organized as a resource right in our backyard! Whether you are wanting to get your home, garage, or business organized, Bee Organized is the perfect place to go! They will come to your house, create an organizational process tailored to you and your home, and donate your excess things for you! They are the best!

Today is National Ice Cream Day!! I celebrated today by going to Poppy's Ice Cream, a local ice cream parlor and coffee shop in the heart of downtown Lee's Summit. Poppy's has been in our community since Teresa Poppinga opened shop in 1997, and it continues to be a gem. There are ice cream flavors for anyone and everyone. If you are dairy free, there are several delicious flavors of homemade sorbet. If you don't have a very big sweet tooth, there are flavors such as the Cabernet Bittersweet or Black Sea Salt Chocolate that are more bitter. You can turn any of the ice cream flavors into a milkshake, and there is even one with espresso (my favorite, the Gianduja)! What all of these treats have in common is that they are all homemade on site!! Poppy's just can't be beat! Head over today to celebrate National Ice Cream day before they sell out!
  • July 19th is National Daiquiri Day! Celebrate today by visiting the KC Daiquiri Shop, a unique spot that seamlessly fuses the rich culture of the French Quarter with a Midwest touch. When you walk in the door, you are immediately met with immense passion and charisma from the whole staff, especially owners Kinley Strickland and Calvin Vick. The KC Daiquiri Shop's interior is incredibly intentional and meaningful, with classic New Orleans decorations and a hand-painted mural paying tribute to the business partners' late fathers. There will be some amazing specials going on for National Daiquiri Day today, and you won't want to miss out!
