For years, my husband and I have gone all the way to Strang Line Road in Olathe, Kansas, not necessarily to have an adult drink before, during or after the movie. Or the nice little meals that they served to us. But we definitely traveled the distance in order to have a reclining seat that gave us plenty of room for stretching out and getting comfortable. In the same respect to the movie goer behind us, they are able to stretch out and get comfortable without kicking our seats throughout the movie experience! We now have this local convenient option at the B & B In Lee's Summit. Every seat reclines! Giving us the moving experience that we are looking for!!

If you haven’t heard, the Longview Community Center (aka Longview Rec Center) located on the Longview Community College campus is almost complete. The center is in the midst of a 1.6 million dollar renovation! The Lees Summit Parks and Recreation purchased the property in June and hopes to have the improvements all completed by the end of 2018. The entire interior of the building has been repainted, old carpeting has been removed, the swimming pool has been cleaned, the wood floors in the gym have been refinished, new fitness equipment has been installed, and new furniture has been purchased. I’m looking forward to the reopening of this wonderful facility!

Powell Gardens is a place to enjoy all throughout the year. They have the most amazing events throughout the year and the most beautiful botanical garden. However, the Festival of Lights is one of my favorite events. They have a glowing light display that can be enjoyed during a one-mile walk that magnifies the Holiday season and it is such a joy to experience! When you are finished enjoying the cold winter walk, you can go to the Grand Hall and enjoy hot chocolate or hot cider to warm you up. Another sight to see is the tour of the train garden that resides in the magical domed conservatory. The Festival of Lights can be enjoyed from 4:00-10:00 p.m., from Thursday - Sunday starting December 1st and ending January 6th.

Well, it looks like Downtown Lees Summit now has an official name: Strother District. Just over about 150 years ago, the town of Lees Summit was incorporated as a plat of land consisting of eleven blocks. This land was originally called The Town of Strother. Hence where the new name, Strother District, came from. In the Strother District you can find restaurants, entertainment, and shops. Some of these are a local ice cream store, a local coffee shop, local restaurants, local craft beer, live music, a speakeasy lounge, annual festivals, annual parades, and much more!

My kids grew up in Lee's Summit and attended Lee's Summit schools from elementary all the way through high school. I can't say enough good things about the education they received and the activities they had the opportunities to be involved in. The Race for the Future benefits the Lee's Summit Educational Foundation. The The Race for the Future will be holding their 22nd annual event that features a 5K Run/Walk and Kids Dash. It’s coming! The plans have been drawn out and are under review. Many bicyclists have been waiting for this for a long time! The planned Hartman Park Trailhead will connect to the very popular new 7.5 mile Rock Island Trail. Ultimately, it will connect to the Katy Trail, the statewide trail. As part of rails-to-trails project, which creates walking and biking trails along some of the out-of-service railroad tracks, the Hartman Trailhead is planned to include the following: bike racks, trail map and information kiosk, bike maintenance station, water fountain, seating, and shade structure. Currently, officials are hoping that a temporary connection trail can be available from the new Hartman Park Trailhead to the Rock Island Trail before the end of 2018. This is all very exciting!

I have been a Sushi lover for over 20 years, having dined on some of the best while living in Northern California. I've tried several local Sushi restaurants in the Lee's Summit area and would highly recommend Mr Sushi. The fish is always so fresh, portion sizes are generous and its usually not too crowded. Only negative I've experienced in the times we have eaten here is one evening when there were too many people for the waitress to service effectively. The flip side to the name is that it is also a HibachiI style restaurant on the other side! That section is always packed and the aroma as you walk in is delightful.
