Merriam, Kansas is located in Johnson County, just 8 minutes south of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Merriam is served by the Shawnee Mission School District which is rated in the top four percent in the nation. Merriam is home to many beautiful parks including popular Antioch Park, Johnson County Park & Recreation’s oldest park.
Last year the city council of the City of Merriam approved a five-year public art plan. The first installation and ribbon-cutting ceremony was today, July 6, 2016, of a limestone tower with a large wind chime, entitled "Still Time." The artists are DRAW Architecture + Urban Design and the sound artist and composer is Paul Rudy. Despite the soaring temperatures, there was a good crowd at the Merriam Marketplace, near the corner of Johnson Drive and Merriam Drive. It was quite the event with the Evening Farmers' Market being open, food trucks, and music. Attendees were presented with a numbered, limited edition license plate to commemorate the event. Johnson Drive in Merriam is very picturesque, and "Still Time" is a wonderful addition to the area. We look forward to seeing the next four art installations.
