    If you are thinking about a move in the near future, I encourage you to discover the Piper area in Wyandotte County. Located just northwest of The Legends shopping center, it has the best school districts in the area. The Piper School District has seen tremendous growth over the past 10 years and recently just passed a school bond to build a brand new intermediate (3rd-5th Grade) school at 131st and Leavenworth Road. My husband and I moved to the area right before our daughter was going to enter kindergarten and couldn't be more thrilled with our experience so far. We now have two girls at the elementary school who are thriving in their classes. The teachers, staff, and community really treats each other with respect and kindness. I feel like the Piper area is a perfect mix of big city and small town.

    This, currently, one way in and one way out subdivision is of a limited number of homes. Most houses tend to be ranches or refers 1.5s (basically a ranch home with a walk- out basement including a bedroom or more). The lots are decent sized although not necessarily level. The houses have a nice amount of finished square footage. The price, depending upon the market, of course, begin on the upper $400Ks or lower $500Ks. It is in the award winning Piper School District and the bus stops right at the entrance at Leavenworth Road and 119th Street. Easy access to main arteries allow you to get to dining and shopping (e.g. The Legends) quickly.

    Families that live in American Heritage Estates can walk to pick their kids up from school without ever crossing a busy city street. Piper Elementary, Piper Middle, and Piper High School are all located adjacent to the others. The high school is directly on two-lane Hutton Rd. and the younger students attend in their separate buildings behind the high school, where there are no direct roads connecting to the grounds. It's the kind of educational environment that fosters focus simply by not having continuous distractions outside!

    Piper Pirate parents (say that three times quickly!) can feel comfortable that their students are getting a good education, too. Performance ratings are above average, and more than 80% of parents have a college degree, and household income within the district is around $94,000.

    Hometown legend and star of "Modern Family", Eric Stonestreet, will be the Grand Marshal at this years Kansas City St. Patrick Day Parade on March 17th.

    Enrollment has shot up by 53 percent, or 830 students, in the past decade. More that 2,300 students now attend Piper Schools.

    The Bond issue is passed and with a three-five school center that will accommodate 800 students, district officials say they can keep grade levels at one location. The new school will open in the fall of 2020.
