Nestled between State Line Road on the east, and Mission Road on the west, is the lovely little town of Westwood, Kansas. Other small Johnson County towns surround it such as Mission Woods, Westwood Hills, Mission Hills, Roeland Park, and Fairway. It is pretty small, as it is less than a half square mile in size.

There are about 1,500 residents, as of the 2010 census. Most of the homes were built between 1920 and 1940, and they are just full of charm! Cape Cod, cottage, and Tudor-style homes abound, and there are also Colonial and Bungalow houses. In the past year, 40 homes have sold for a median average sales price of $243,225.

My favorite spot to take Independence Day fireworks photos is near Bishop Miege High School. The city of Fairway partners with Westwood and Roeland Park to put on a truly fine display there.

If you want a home with character in a homey, well-established suburb, Westwood might be for you! It is just minutes from the Country Club Plaza and nearly walking distance to the University of Kansas Hospital.
  • Westwood is a small suburb made up of approximately 1,500 people located the the Northeast corner of Johnson County. Here you can enjoy all the suburban amenities including, the award-wining Shawnee Mission School District Schools and still be in close proximity to the Country Club Plaza, KU Med and downtown Kansas City. Westwood is the best of both worlds! Enjoy walking to one of the nearby restaurants, parks or locally owned shops that serve the city.

Westwood is a small town in northeast Johnson County Kansas. Quite a few years ago I grew up in Westwood, and my parents still live in the same house. Back then, I walked to grade school and then to High School. The city's character hasn't changed much since then. A small city park features a tennis court and a water fountain, along with playground equipment for kids. One business which is a major asset to the city is the KU Cancer Center, a satellite building of KU Medical Center. St. Agnes Catholic school is a short walk and Bishop Miege High School is across the parking lot from St. Agnes. Nearby shopping along Shawnee Mission parkway include a grocery, restaurants and small interesting places to visit.
