Macon, MO Real Estate, Homes For Sale, School & Area Information

Macon is known as the "City of Maples." You'll notice references to it in several places around town. Many people probably don't know where the name came from. Being a Macon transplant myself, I looked into it a few years ago and it's kind of an interesting story.

Back in 1872, a guy by the name of John Beaumont, who interestingly enough was a real estate man, owed the city a whopping $116 in back taxes. In order to satisfy that debt, he donated 10,000 maples to the city.

Which brings to mind another question for another story I'll have to research. Soon I'll look into The Beaumont Room and see how it relates to John.
