The fourth annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit Harvesters will take place on November 2, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Artstech KC in the Crossroads Art District. Local talented Kansas City ceramic artists create unique bowls that they donate to this amazing fundraiser. Tickets are required and everyone who pays for a ticket gets one of the donated ceramic bowls. During the evening of the fundraiser, soup is served in this bowl. The attendants get to take their bowl home with them as a keepsake. The Empty Bowls fundraiser benefits Harvesters which donates food to local food pantries.

If you haven’t been to Messenger Coffee you are missing out! Located at 16th and Grand, between Downtown and Crossroads, it is a must for coffee lovers! This is a happening place. I went on a Friday at around 10:00 a.m. and the place was very busy. Messenger Coffee is a very clean and modern facility with great service, great atmosphere, great food and great drinks; coffee, mocha, lattes, etc. The place is huge! Messenger Coffee has three levels, a roof deck, and their own roasting facility and bakery. It definitely did not disappoint and I can’t wait to go back!

Acoustics, acoustics, acoustics! I can't say enough about the amazing sound in the auditorium. If you want to witness some extraordinary and unique performances by exceptional artists with acoustics that are top notch, you need to make reservations for a performance at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. It's just an amazing venue with beautiful architecture. Throughout the year, they host many events: symphonies, ballets, operas, concerts, and more. If you have a chance, check out their schedule of events as there is something for everyone! I would highly recommend that you come see a performance at this amazing venue.

The Crossroads is considered Kansas City’s main art gallery district and is known as the center for the cities visual arts. In the Crossroads, you will find many renovated industrial buildings and warehouses that have been turned into local businesses, art galleries, shops, and restaurants. A Kansas City original! Boulevard Brewing Company was established in Kansas City in 1989. The brewery has grown tremendously over the years and is now considered the largest specialty craft beer brewery in the entire Midwest. The brewery offers several different types of tours daily in which a ticket is required. I took the 45-minute brewery walking tour. It was a great tour with an amazing tour guide which ended with samples in the Tasting Room! The brewery has an eating area where you can dine and choose from an abundance of their beers. Don’t forget their specialty store that includes apparel and bar ware available for purchase.

Every month, always the first Friday of the month, you have a fun event you can add to your calendar! It’s First Friday’s in the Crossroads Art District in Kansas City. It’s such a great and lively way to spend a Friday Night. If you enjoy great food, art, people watching, and entertainment you won’t want to miss this! You can enjoy viewing paintings, drawings, sculptures, and other art exhibits in the art galleries. There are also sidewalk vendors who will have items for you to purchase which are usually locals selling their products. One of my favorites is the street music you can usually find on street corners and the aerial performances by some talented individuals. Let’s not forget about the food and drinks! There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. However, you will find an abundance of food trucks serving great food at reasonable prices. First Friday’s is a great way to spend a nice summer evening!

A new apartment building has just opened up at 1723 Walnut. The Crossroads has been a vibrant growing part of Downtown Kansas City for over a decade now and this new building continues the trend of increasing population density for the area. The building contains a mix of studio, one and two bedroom layouts. Currently this building is rental only and a great place to stay while you save for that first loft purchase!

I love First Fridays in the Crossroads district, especially when the weather cooperates like it is today. A little cool, but in the crowds, I never notice it. Always a good time, to see cool, interesting art. And the people watching is fun too!

Located in a trendy part of town, Etiquette is a cozy oasis open to those wanting to treat themselves to some great pampering and self care. This chic spot offers a menu of various spa treatments such as: eyebrow shaping, waxing, facials, and even microblading! Price varies depending on treatment. Waxing ranges from $10 to $40; Eyelash Extensions from $65-$150; Facial Treatments from $65-$85.

Did I mention Etiquette has products available to buy? I am in love with the face lotion and serum provided. Even when I am applying Etiquette's products at home, I am reminded of the quality of care I will always go back to experience there. Etiquette truly is "thoughtful beauty". I always feel well taken care of if not glowing after every appointment! Schedule by appointment only.

  • Congratulations to the Kansas City Symphony, celebrating its fifth year in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, with near sell-out crowds. According to the Kansas City Business Journal, the Kansas City Symphony continues to fill Helzberg Hall with an average of 95% of tickets sold at performances, filling the hall long after the first-year bump in attendance expected for a new performance hall.

As a season ticket holder and president-elect for one of the five symphony auxiliaries, I am very proud of our musicians, staff, supports, and volunteers. The Kansas City Symphony and the community that supports it is among the many factors that make Kansas City a great place to live!

By now most people know about First Friday’s in the Crossroads Arts District, but, do you know about First Festival Weekends in the West Bottoms area, located west of downtown, near the 12th Street Bridge?

This month’s festival is on August 5, 2016 – August 8, 2016. The festival begins at 8:00 a.m. on Friday and closes at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday; individual store hours vary. The festival features antique markets on multiple floors of large buildings. The West Bottoms Business District Association website list 15 food trucks that will be on hand as well as entertainment throughout the day. I also enjoy bumping into friends and getting inside of the building in the area to see their architecture.
  • Congratulation on the fifth anniversary of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Many thanks for the vision, dedication, and commitment of Julia Irene Kauffman and many other civic leaders and benefactors for this beautiful facility designed by Moshe Safdie; and for the acoustics for Helzberg Hall designed by Yasu Toyota. I have visited many concert halls in the US and Canada as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Major Symphony Orchestra Volunteers and I can say without hesitation that we have a world class performing art center in Kansas City.

The fifth anniversary of the performing arts center will be celebrated on September 2, 2016.

This is one of my favorite places and a KC jewel. The passion and the energy of the music is unmatched. Located at 1809 Grand Avenue, The Green Lady Lounge is an amazing venue for live traditional KC jazz music. Open late every night with no cover, you can enjoy the great sounds of talented performers like Eddie Moore and the Outer Circle, Tim Whitmer Quart and Foundation 627.

The Crossroads District is a wonderful place to live too with lots of dining and entertainment venues all around you. The very popular Western Auto condos are within walking distance of this location.

Recently, I was referred to Dr. Fung by a colleague and am now on my third treatment. I feel fantastic. Having never received an acupuncture treatment, I was skeptical. Now I am a believer and continue to see health improvements at every visit. Easy location to find. Very near the Freighthouse Lofts & Flats, Western Auto Lofts, 2004 Grand Avenue Condo's and the W Lofts on Wyandotte.
