Gardner, Kansas is located in southern Johnson County and is home to 19,123 people. The city was founded where the California, Santa Fe and Oregon Trails divided. Its students are served by the fast growing Gardner-Edgerton School District where a new elementary school and middle school will be opening for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church is part of the Divine Mercy Parish. The church dates its roots in Gardner back to 1870 when 15 local families came together to establish the church. They dedicated their first church building in 1875. The current worship building was dedicated in 2004 and can accommodate 900 people. It is located on the west side of Gardner at 555 W. Main Street (Highway 58). The other church in the Parish is Assumption Catholic Church at 114 E. Nelson, in Edgerton, Kansas.
