Crappie, bass, catfish, and a bit o' bluegill and walleye are stocked in this little-known gem of a lake. Coming in at 160 acres and just under 50 feet deep at its deepest, you won't often find big pontoon boats or large groups of people here.

What you will find are some piers and boat docks made for smaller boats and shore fishing. This state-stocked watering hole is a favorite for folks who want to brag about the ones that didn't get away!

Located just north and west of Tonganoxie, the Leavenworth State Fishing Lake is convenient to anglers coming from Leavenworth, Tongie, Basehor, Bonner Springs, Desoto, Linwood, and Edgerton. It's close enough to take a quick ride after work to throw a line in for an hour or two, even!

There aren't many services, but the bathrooms and docks have undergone recent maintenance and upgrades courtesy of the Bobcat Bass Club and their sponsors, so the park is looking better than ever this year and is ready for your family to enjoy a day of fun, fishing, and family.

Abe's is locally owned and a local favorite. This little place has a big menu with items like baked wings, pretzels, beer cheese, pasta bowls, and of course pizza. They offer quick service, are friendly, and the food is delicious. They offer catering, dine-in, and delivery. A must try!

Leavenworth was the first city incorporated in Kansas. It is home to Fort Leavenworth and the United States Penitentiary and has a large military and veteran presence. It is situated on the west bank of the Missouri River. Leavenworth is close to Kansas City, which is home to the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. New construction in Leavenworth is found in the community of West Glen of the rolling hills of 20th Street.

Nestled on rolling hills overlooking the Missouri River, the National Cemetery of the Eisenhower VA Center is home to military veterans who sacrificed their lives for the many freedoms we enjoy today. On Memorial Day, flags are posted at each gravesite by volunteer scout troops. Scenes of flags unfurled in the early summer breeze are stirring to the soul. Each December, Wreaths Across America are presented by the Sons of the American Revolution, in period costume, after an outdoor ceremony, honoring each branch of the armed service. Thousands of be-ribboned wreaths are provided by a company in Maine, to be presented to individual gravesites in national cemeteries across the USA. In Leavenworth, volunteers from all around Leavenworth County, are presented with a fragrant wreath to lay at the gravestone of a fallen veteran, in a selected area of the cemetery. A pulsing drumbeat of the SAR drum corps accompanies the wreath laying. "God bless you. Thank you for your service."

Established in 1854 and named for Col. Henry Leavenworth, this beautifully maintained fort overlooks the curving Missouri River. Majestic trees tower over the original wagon wheel ruts left years ago by wagon trains moving west. The new Lewis and Clark Center is home to the Command and General Staff College where officers from all branches of the military come to study strategy and logistics. International officers also attend CGSC for a year in the military-friendly city of Leavenworth.
