Liberty is a city located in Clay County, Missouri and is also considered a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. Its close proximity to KCMO means that the residents of Liberty can enjoy a local home-town feel, while also having access to the cultural and recreational advantages of a big city. The city of Liberty has the honor of being recognized in August 2011 as the 7th Best Place to Live in America by CNN/Money Magazine.

Connection to transportation outlets makes Liberty an excellent choice for businesses, shopping, and recreation. Several major employers reside in Liberty including the Hallmark distribution warehouse, Liberty Industrial Park, Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, and the Heartland Meadows light industrial park. Cultural and recreational venues include the Liberty Performing Arts Theater, Corbin Theater, the Liberty Community Center, and the Fountain Bluff Sports Complex. William Jewell College, founded in 1849, is a nationally recognized undergraduate liberal arts college and also hosts a myriad of cultural events such as music, performing arts, and theater. The Liberty Square offers an interesting assortment of retail shops including antique and gift stores. If this doesn’t suit your taste, simply hop on one of the major highway systems for quick access to Zona Rosa or The Legends outdoor malls.

Liberty was founded in 1822, 18 years after Lewis and Clark passed through what we now call Clay County. Liberty is the home to seven historic districts and over 240 preserved homes and buildings including the historic Liberty Jail Site, the Clay County Museum, and the Jesse James Bank Museum.

    Get in the Christmas spirit on December 2nd on the Historic Liberty Square when the Hometown Holiday festivities begin. From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., there will be free family activities such as:
    Photos with Santa, kid's crafts, caricature artists, shopping, games, live music, and face painting.

    The Liberty Mayor's Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 5:10 p.m. Come help light up the Holidays with the City of Liberty and Historic Downtown Liberty.

    The final tour of the 2023 Historic Waling Tour Series will be led by Cecelia Robinson, Historian with the Clay County African American Legacy. Cecelia will give a guided walking tour of the African American Memorial at Fairview Cemetery and Garrison School.

    The tour will start on October 7th at 10:00 a.m. and begin at the African American Legacy Memorial entrance. The tour will start at the opening of the African American Legacy Memorial. Fairview Cemetery is located off of West Shrader Street.

    Opening this weekend, September 15th, the Liberty Corn Maze is ready for some more outdoor fall fun. Bring the family out to enjoy their new maze this year, highlighting the KC Current, our hometown women's professional soccer team. With four giant mazes to choose from, visitors are sure to have a fantastic adventure. Don't forget to check out their new bridges inside the mazes. Let the kids try out the rope, tire, and soybean mazes that offer the perfect challenge for the little ones in the family.     The City of Liberty will test a new app-based rideshare service provided by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, RideCo, and zTrip. Rides within the Liberty city limits are $3.00. Rides to the airport are $10.00.

    This pilot program will run from September 1- November 30, with rides available from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week. This service is an effort to expand access to cost-effective transportation options within the KC region. Paratransit services will also be for individuals using wheelchairs and riders traveling with their bikes.

    Liberty Parks and Recreation is offering a free Evidence-based Program that will incorporate Tai Chi principles for improving health and wellness as well as being proven effective for fall prevention. The Centers for Disease Control has recommended this program to improve your balance, confidence, and muscular strength, and has been proven very effective in preventing falls.

    Moonlight Yoga is a monthly benefit for the off-leash dog park located at Stocksdale Park. Liberty Parks and Rec have partnered with Serenity on the Square to offer this event. Participants should bring a mat or blanket and meet in the grass near the trail by the horseshoe arena. A

    Are you looking for a nice place to let your dog get some exercise off the leash? You will want to come check out the Liberty Dog Park located in Stocksdale Park. The Liberty Dog Park includes three acres of fully fenced area for dogs to enjoy as well as a 5,400 square foot section dedicated to the smaller canines. The park features agility obstacles, benches, water spigots, waste bags, and more. Admission is free, but users must abide by the park's established rules and regulations.

    On Wednesday, June 21st, Liberty will join hundreds of cities in the US and around the world in marking the beginning of summer with Make Music Liberty, hosted by the Liberty Arts Commission. This is a city-wide celebration of music open to all ages, all genres of music, and all skill levels.     The Liberty Summer Band is an all-volunteer group of approximately 30 musicians who rehearse and perform on select evenings in June. They play a variety of fun and exciting music ranging from concert overtures and marches to show tunes and light classics. All the concerts are free, so bring your lawn chair and enjoy some awesome music. All the concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Rooney Justice Center located at 11 S. Water St. This years concerts will be held on June 6th, 13th, and 27th, and the patriotic concert on July 2nd.
