Liberty is a city located in Clay County, Missouri and is also considered a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. Liberty was founded in 1822, 18 years after Lewis and Clark passed through what we now call Clay County. Liberty is the home to seven historic districts and over 240 preserved homes and buildings including the historic Liberty Jail Site, the Clay County Museum, and the Jesse James Bank Museum.

    Liberty Parks and Rec is having its annual golf tournament to raise funds for its Foundation Scholarship Fund. This fund ensures that no one is turned away from a Parks and Rec activity due to an inability to pay. This event will be held at Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville.

    The tournament is on August 15, and the Shotgun Start is at 8:00 a.m. Teams receive free range balls before the event, 18 holes of golf, with a cart, lunch, and a goodie bag for each player. Prizes will be awarded for: Golf Ball Launcher, Hole in One and 4 Ring Hole in One, Longest Putt, Longest Drive, and Closest to the Pin. One Mulligan per player. There will be a Silent Auction and a 50/50 raffle also. Register your team of 4 by August 1, 2025 ($480), and save $100.

    What is Flamingle Night, you say? It's happening on the first Thursday in August, the 7th. Time is 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on and around the Historic Liberty Square. With your admission ticket ($40, $30 in advance), you'll receive a souvenir tasting glass, 20+ tropical drink samples, tasty snack stops, an event map, and tasting notes. You will be entered into a gift card giveaway at each stop. Only drinkers need tickets; non-drinkers are free. Check-in at 11 N. Gallatin and the fun begins!

    National Night Out
    Bring the whole family and visit with the Liberty Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff's Office on National Night Out, August 5th. Time is 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Liberty City Hall parking lot.

    There will be lots of free activities including: Ident-A-Kid, inflatables, a bubble party, a petting zoo, and Kona Ice. Let the kids explore the patrol cars and fire engines. Liberty Animal Control will also be there with pets you can adopt!

    National Night Out is held annually to promote police/community partnerships, which make our City a safer place to live. And it's all free! Except for the pets, there is a small adoption fee.

    Santa Claus is coming to town for Christmas in July at the Liberty Farmer's Market! This event will be Saturday, July 19th, 8 am to noon. Yes, Santa will indeed be stopping by the market on his way home from his summer vacation to spread early holiday cheer. He will stop by to hear early Christmas wishes and to share how toy production is going at the North Pole.     Join Liberty Parks and Rec for a barking good time at the Pup Cup Pop Up Saturday, May 10th, from 2-4pm. Come out and enjoy a beautiful spring day at Stocksdale Dog Park. Cool off with FREE Kona Ice for pups and humans and get a free caricature of your pet from one of two pet caricature artists that will be on hand. And, of course there will lots of furry friends.     Have you ever wondered what it would take to be a police officer? The Liberty Police Department has a Junior Police Academy that shows youth some aspects of police life. The program will run July 14-18, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some of the topics covered with classroom learning and hands on activities include: fitness, patrol tactics, criminal investigations, traffic safety, self-defense and SWAT techniques. There are a limited number of openings and applications are due by May 12. Applications are available at the front office of any of the Liberty Middle Schools. The applications must include two recommendations, signed releases and waivers and a short essay.
