For those wondering if the revitalization of Midtown will continue...here's some additional, very current, information to consider. I've been fortunate enough to be a small part of the residential new home construction efforts going on nearby in Manheim Park. New real estate development is occurring on both residential and commercial properties in Midtown KC.

Settling in nicely to their new space at at 4301 Main in the heart of Midtown, Ragazza has been serving up Italian fare in the Midtown/Wesport area since 2013. If you haven't checked this place out yet, I highly recommend you do! Offering a cozy atmosphere, fresh food and delicious wines, it has become a favorite for many the last few years. Their location, just a few blocks from Wesport and the Plaza, is unparalleled, especially with the highly anticipated street car expansion. With that said, you might want to make reservations.

If you are familiar with Westport you will remember Mario's. Their grinders will occasionally haunt my dreams. My dad worked just around the corner so we would often meet there for lunch. I took my daughter there for the first time when she was a week old. In 2017 we found out this fixture of our family was closing and our hearts broke a little. The heartbreak turned to excitement when we found out that Shelia Shields will be carrying on. Shelia has worked at the shop since 1984. No one is better suited to carry on the tradition of the grinder. A recent visit proved that Sheila is doing a great job. The grinders are amazing. Grab some of their famous pasta salad too. You will not be disappointed.

I believe that the KC Art Institute is a hidden gem. I know artists who have attended or currently attend the KCAI and they have nothing but glowing things to say about this great institute. They were able to explore and experiment with so many different types of art and grew tremendously as artists. They offer classes in video graphics, animation, painting, video effects, mixed media, print making, interactive technology and much more. Their students are creative and passionate about art.

The KCAI is conveniently located just 200 yards from the Nelson Art Gallery and 100% of their professors are practicing artists, scholars, and designers. I believe that the Kansas City Art Institute will be attracting a lot more ambitious artists who want to expand on their knowledge and create something that changes the way we view art.

The friendly service, welcoming atmosphere, and the trendy building are additional reasons why people like to visit Q39. It is not just a local favorite and regular hang out for many, people travel from all over to taste the BBQ that so many rave about. If you love BBQ, you must try Q39. • This weekend I ate at Mario's in Westport. This little restaurant is a piece of local history. It is a lot smaller than it once was but the food is great. While I waited for my food, I was talking with a lady who comes from St.Louis to get Mario's grinders and stocks up for a few months before coming back for more! I have had the grinder sandwich and the lasagna and both are great. The eat-in area is very small, so I normally order to go. However, it is worth the drive and the wait. The food is great! Be sure to try out Mario's - you will love it!

Tivoli Cinemas is located in the Manor Square Building, in Westport, just north of the Country Club Plaza. It is a long time favorite of mine. I can always count on seeing some really good independent films that I would not see anywhere else. Take in a movie and then head down the street to Murray's Ice Creams and Cookies for some delicious ice cream. Makes for a fun day!
