    The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art is Missouri's largest contemporary museum. It is a 23,000+ square foot concrete, steel, and glass contemporary building. The museum houses hundreds of works created by great contemporary artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Louise Bourgeois, Lesley Dill, Peter Norton, and many more. In addition, the museum also has many self-organized exhibitions during the year. Inside the museum is Café Sebastienne, which is an American café in a courtyard atrium. The café combines contemporary art with contemporary cuisine serving local and organic dishes.

    We stopped in for a casual dinner at Cupini’s, a cozy, deli-style Italian spot where you order at the counter, grab your own drink, flatware, and napkins, and post your number at the table. It’s a laid-back setup, and we chose to sit outside on the back patio.

    The patio had a nice vibe, but the tables were packed in quite tightly, making it difficult to move around, and not all tables had enough chairs. The faux wooden chairs looked nice, but definitely weren’t the most comfortable. Unfortunately, the place was filling up quickly, so we had to make it work.

    The service was a bit different; our food came out one item at a time, which was a little unexpected. But everything arrived hot and fresh. We ordered cheese bread, the lasagna, and chicken spiedini. All were delicious, with generous portions (we left with leftovers!). The only disappointment was the Spiedini—it was good, but missing the signature garlic butter sauce I usually expect from that dish.

    Overall, still a solid visit. I’ve been to Cupini’s many times and will definitely be back again, except skipping the Spiedini next time!

    Room 39 is a farm-to-table restaurant located on Kansas City's iconic 39th street, a midtown destination for unique shopping, local eats and tasty cocktails. My must-visit spot on 39th street for great food and an inviting atmosphere is Room 39. Once you enter the door and step through the curtains, you'll be greeted by the friendly staff and offered a table or a seat at the bar, but no matter where you choose, you’ll be surrounded by friendly people and mouth-watering scents. I often prefer the bar because the patrons are as friendly as the staff, and I always seem to leave making a new friend or connection. The restaurant’s brick walls are usually adorned with custom art from local artists so it’s great eye candy in-between each bite and/or sip. The menu does not disappoint: Room 39 has some of the best breakfast and lunch in town, and dinner is also amazing. For breakfast, my personal favorite is the artichoke toast that comes with two perfectly poached eggs on top of a loaf of toasted ciabatta bread covered in a homemade artichoke spread. I legit have dreams about this dish! The burger is one of the best in KC, and surprisingly, Room 39 has the best veggie burger in town. The fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, making it hard to leave any behind on your plate. The chef, Ted Habiger, is a three-time James Beard Foundation Outstanding Chef Award nominee and has been proudly serving the KC area for 20 years and counting. So make sure to add Room 39 to your list and head down to 39th street to experience one of the most eclectic streets in the city.

    OurHouseKC is a local coffee shop that has excellent drinks, yummy muffins/food, and great service. All of the menus have been hand-drawn by local artists and there is so much care and detail given to the decor and overall atmosphere created. Stop in when you're in the area and see what you think! It's also connected to a barbecue restaurant that smells delicious!

This is is your place to dine. Since 1993, the Garcia's have family recipes that are second to none and have transferred generations of recipes exactly as the original - delish!!! If you are looking for a happy hour spot, check out Rudy's off Westport Road as your next stop to have the best margaritas and spinach dip or ceviche tostadas; you will not be disappointed.     Settling in nicely to their new space at at 4301 Main in the heart of Midtown, Ragazza has been serving up Italian fare in the Midtown/Wesport area since 2013. If you haven't checked this place out yet, I highly recommend you do! Offering a cozy atmosphere, fresh food and delicious wines, it has become a favorite for many the last few years. Their location, just a few blocks from Wesport and the Plaza, is unparalleled, especially with the highly anticipated street car expansion. With that said, you might want to make reservations.

    If you are familiar with Westport you will remember Mario's. Their grinders will occasionally haunt my dreams. My dad worked just around the corner so we would often meet there for lunch. I took my daughter there for the first time when she was a week old. In 2017 we found out this fixture of our family was closing and our hearts broke a little. The heartbreak turned to excitement when we found out that Shelia Shields will be carrying on. Shelia has worked at the shop since 1984. No one is better suited to carry on the tradition of the grinder. A recent visit proved that Sheila is doing a great job. The grinders are amazing. Grab some of their famous pasta salad too. You will not be disappointed.

    I believe that the KC Art Institute is a hidden gem. I know artists who have attended or currently attend the KCAI and they have nothing but glowing things to say about this great institute. They were able to explore and experiment with so many different types of art and grew tremendously as artists. They offer classes in video graphics, animation, painting, video effects, mixed media, print making, interactive technology and much more. Their students are creative and passionate about art.

    The KCAI is conveniently located just 200 yards from the Nelson Art Gallery and 100% of their professors are practicing artists, scholars, and designers. I believe that the Kansas City Art Institute will be attracting a lot more ambitious artists who want to expand on their knowledge and create something that changes the way we view art.

    Thomas Hart Benton was a well-known American painter who lived in Kansas City. Much of his paintings showed everyday people and scenes of what life was like in the United States. You can view some of his work in town at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

    The Thomas Hart Benton Home and studio historic site was established in 1977 and is currently managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. For those who want to view the home and studio, tours are provided that show the furnished home he lived in and his studio he worked at just as he left it when he passed away in his studio in January of 1975.
