El Canelo Mexican Restaurant just opened its doors recently at 1800 Swift. The new restaurant pains are slightly in place, but they are good pains. They had no idea they would have the onslaught of business they have encountered. So I suppose I can go one night with a frozen Margarita instead of on the rocks! The food was amazing. Nothing crazy, or hot and spicy; I would say appealing to all pallets. I would highly recommend the Chile Rellenos if you like them. Or if you don't like them because most restaurants don't clean out the seeds very well. Never fear. There were four of these little gems on our table and I did not see a single seed. This place needs to be on your list to try on your next Taco Tuesday!

This is one of the best-kept secrets in the Northland. Located on Swift just south of Armour Road at 1621 Swift in North Kansas City. We had the most incredible flavored and textured pork and shrimp tacos that fill you up. They have different music genres Thursday thru Saturday in their courtyard with the added bonus of Saturday Salsa Dancing. I still think about their mango margaritas! They are open for lunch every day but only open Thursday thru Saturday for Dinner.

Have you ever eaten in a sports museum that offers the largest collection of sports memorabilia displayed in a restaurant? If not, you need to make plans to visit Chappel's in North Kansas City. You will be impressed with the atmosphere, as well as their extensive bar and grille menu (for all ages). Known for their mouth-watering hamburgers, they feature pork tenderloins (my personal favorite served with onion rings); blackened chicken sandwich or wrap; London broil wrap; super BLT and hot corned beef to highlight their delish menu. My husband loves the sweet potato fries and I must get the onion rings, we alternate getting the Sante Fe Blackened Chicken Wrap; the Blackened Chicken Sandwich and the Papa's Sloppy Joe. Where else can you have comfort food, enjoy the history of our local sports stars and teams, as well as all over the USA? Jim, the owner, began collecting memorabilia since he was a child and it's grown into a local, iconic establishment for you to soak in, relax the local atmosphere and eat fabulous food. Make your plans to go soon, you won't be disappointed!!! Bon Appetit!

  • Beered Man's Kitchen is nestled in the back of Colony KC in North Kansas City. The menu is small, but it has good options. I tried the Buffalo Loaded Fries and the Mozzarella Sticks. My client tried the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla. The flavors of the food and freshness were amazing. The service was friendly and quick. Perfect for to go orders or dining in. If you are in North Kansas City or wanting to try something new, this is worth trying.

Chicken and Pickle is located at the corner of Burlington and 17th Street and is one of the most popular places in North Kansas City. With indoor and outdoor pickleball courts, fabulous outdoor seating and really good food, you are sure to have a fun day or evening out with friends and family. I recently booked an indoor court on a Saturday for eight of us: four adults and four kids. We rotated in and out of the game, ordered some food and drinks and generally had a great time. When our court time expired, we moved to the outdoor area where the fun continued with a game of giant Jenga, some corn hole and a game of washers. The TVs were playing college football, the sun was shining and we walked out of there with some great memories.

  • The Kansas City area is closer to being the home of a national children's book museum. The Rabbit Hole, a non-profit, is seeking to open the museum in their newly purchased location at 919 E 14th Ave. in North Kansas City, MO. The interactive City Museum in St. Louis is an inspiration for what the space could become. The museum is planned to open as early as next year but much remains to be done. • If you are looking for something delicious and different in the North Kansas City area check out Bun Mee Phan. The Vietnamese sandwiches, taqueria and other dishes they serve are out of this world good. The veggies are always fresh and combined with delicious protein options for a balanced healthy meal. The prices are easy on the walled too! My family and I have been monthly customers here for for the last couple years. The owners could not be more friendly.

This is some of the best Asian food north of the river. I come here at least once a week for lunch or dinner or both! Huge menu including all kinds of curry, noodle and rice dishes but also amazing duck and fish options! I especially enjoy the personal friendly service (the owner is always there) and their ability to cater to pretty much any food allergy or diet. They also make everything fresh in house including their chili powder from scratch! It packs a punch so if you want flavor, but no tears be sure to ask for your dish to be prepared mild. Order something different every time and you'll never get bored eating at Spices!

I visited one of my favorite BBQ Joints in Kansas City. Hawg Jaw Que and Brew. You will frequently see the owner there taking care of customers and ensuring the business is ran right, a true home town local place. When in North Kansas City I highly recommend stopping by to check it out. My favorites are the burnt ends, and the ribs.

The 33rd annual Snake Saturday Parade and Festival is on Saturday, March 11, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Don't let a little snow keep you away from the festivities celebrating St. Patrick's Day! This event is always held the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, and this year's theme is "Leaping Leprechauns". Northland charities benefit from funds raised. Don't forget to wear green!

North Kansas City is rapidly becoming one of the coolest places in the Northland. Microbreweries, great dining, and now pickleball is becoming one of KC's hottest sports. Chicken n' Pickle is located at 18th and Burlington. Great food, indoor/outdoor pickleball courts, beer garden, bocce ball and corn-holes. Its the best new entertainment venue in Kansas City. Jason and I and our two boys, age 11 and 13, play regularly. This venue is near the very popular Northgate Village community.
