Prairie Village, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City located in Johnson County, has a population of 21,447. The town was developed by J. C. Nichols who is the developer of the Country Club Plaza located just a few miles away and was initially intended to provide a community for military personnel returning from the Second World War. It was incorporated in 1951 and was named the best planned community in America in 1949 by the National Association of Home Builders. The award winning Shawnee Mission School District serves the educational needs of the Prairie Village residents.
Our family has lived in Prairie Village for a few years now and I am still taken aback by the energy and community of families buzzing around The Village shopping center. If you are interested in living in a vibrant place where people are always in their front yards, visiting with neighbors and out walking, this is the place for you. The Village boasts a Starbuck's, Dolce Bakery, Euston's Hardware and several other local businesses and eateries we frequent. But, we just tried Standee's, a movie theatre with dining and drinks, for the first time and loved it! It is a must for date night or for the family and it is within walking distance of lots of other great places!
