    Grassroots in downtown Smithville is a fun place that offers an amazing atmosphere and ambiance. We had the privilege of going there on Saturday night for a friend's birthday party, and we will definitely go back and bring our family. We were huge fans of Humphreys, but after it closed, we haven't ventured back. Now, with Grassroots, we will be visiting Smithville again soon. The charred chicken wings and the pork belly deviled eggs were my favorite of the small plates. I really don't think you could go wrong. Their fun, craft drinks are amazing as well. My specialty was the Time Bomb. Go try it for yourself and let me know how you love it!

    A great addition to an already stellar list of "food finds" in Smithville. Located near Packs Hardware, the food truck is stationed in the parking lot of the U-Haul business. We've tried many rolls and have enjoyed them all. I see many great reviews of the Hibachi food as well. Give them a shot! You can find their menu on their FB page, and calling ahead can help with the normal
    15-20 minute wait. Smithville continues to add more value to our community every year.

    Santa and his reindeer dropped candy canes on the ball fields at Heritage Park. Bring a flashlight and search for the lost candy canes. Some of the candy canes are extra special and have prizes on them! The Smithville Chamber of Commerce Candyland Christmas is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. this Friday, December 10th, so stop by for some candy cane fun.

    The Haunted Campground at Smithville Lake is a must-do for kiddos to get out and have some fall fun. The community does a great job of getting together to pass out candy and other goodies for the kids. And it's free!

    My kids have walked away the past two years with so much candy! The Smith Fork Campground has a nice setup and a very smooth flow. There have always been games that the volunteers set up, and they all decorate their spaces so fun! This year it will be held on October 23 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.!

    There is a must-try eatery for everyone who is looking for a laid back, delicious, and reasonably priced meal. Aroma Bistro is located east of I-169 south of Smithville, MO. It's easy to get to, has the most amazing staff, sommelier', menu, chefs and it all comes at a budget-friendly price. The Sunday Brunch is filled with yummy combinations of waffles to chilaquiles poblanos; my favorite. If you are into wine, they have wine classes to host small groups and awesome appetizers.

    I always knew I really liked Smithville Lake, but this summer I got the privilege to hang out there a little more than I have in the past. Not only is it a great lake to fish on, which is what I knew most about it, but it's also a great lake to enjoy some good ol boat time. Whether you are wanting to "cove out" or go tubing/wake boarding it's the perfect lake for it. The best part is that kids can have just as much fun as the adults. Living in Smithville and having this great resource so close would be awesome!

    Christmas is over! What will we do with the tree? Well, Clay County Parks has an environmentally friendly idea. The park has a drop-off site for whole cut Christmas trees. Signs will direct you to the drop off site, which is opened daily from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Little Platte Park is on the west side of the lake and can be accessed by following Highway 169 north to Northeast 180th Street, then east into Little Platte Park. Be sure to remove all your ornaments, tinsel, and other items like tree bags. If you need more information contact Clay County Parks. Let's get environmentally friendly this new year!

    Keep an eye out for information about Smithville Lake Eagle Days on January 7-8 at Paradise Pointe Golf Course Clubhouse. There will be spotting scopes set up at the lake shore where eagles are most likely to be. Activities are 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8.
