    The 20th Anniversary of the Kansas City Irish Fest returns this weekend, September 2nd - 4th, 2022, at the Crown Center. World-renowned Irish bands, comedians, Celtic dancers, authentic food, and beverages are a few of the attractions slated to celebrate everything Irish. Tickets are available at kcirishfest.com.     If you love food and trying out new dishes, you are sure to love this event. On Saturday, August 17th, 2019 from noon-10:00 p.m. you can enjoy this amazing food and music festival hosted by Carrier, Bryant, and Stella Artois. You will have the opportunity to taste the dishes of the more than 30 restaurants that will be bringing their creative signature dishes from their menu to this event.

    Food is not all that this festival offers. You can also listen to live music from bands such as Cherry Bomb and you might just decide to dance the day and night away. There will also be beer and cocktails available from our very own local distilleries and wineries. You must purchase a ticket to attend this event.

    Enjoy the Holiday Express Train
    If you want to really get into the Christmas spirit, you must visit Union Station from December 14th through December 18th, 2018. That is when you will be able to experience the pure joy that the Kansas City Southern Holiday Express Train brings to so many people. This is by far one of the most popular holiday traditions in Kansas City. During this time, visitors will be able to tour the train and also visit with Santa Claus. This is a free event made available to the public. The express train brings in lots to enjoy, such as, Rudy the smiling tank car, a wonderful gingerbread box car, the amazing reindeer stable, Santa's sleigh being carried by a flat car, and the elves' workshop. The Holiday Express Train is sure to put a smile on your face and gives you one more reason to enjoy the holiday season.

Many area schools and churches have choirs with the singers putting in a lot of time to learn and practice songs to perform to the public during the Holidays. Crown Center gives the opportunity to over 100 schools, churches, and community choirs to allow their choirs to come sing at Crown Center everyday from November 26th through December 21st. This is a free event and is held in the open area of Level 1. I know that while my kids attended school they were in choir and this event was one of the highlights of the year. Music is good for the soul!

    Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting
    It's that time of year again! Get ready for the annual Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at Crown Center on November 23rd, 2018 starting at 5:30 p.m. One of our county's tallest Christmas trees, which stands at about 100 feet tall, is the main attraction! Kansas City's mayor Sly James and a special guest will flip the switch that will illuminate the beautiful tree. Once the holiday is over, wood taken directly from the mayor's Christmas tree is used to make keepsake ornaments. These unique ornaments are then sold the following year and proceeds from the sale are donated to the Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund. This fund helps to provide for the city's less fortunate citizens.

The fountains have 49 water jets and 48 water shooters that spout water in the fountains at up to 60 feet in the air. They also have dancing water shows that is synchronized to music that was previously recorded by Kansas City's own Kansas City Symphony.     Trains, trains, and more trains! You are sure to enjoy this incredible display of 8,000 square feet of model toy trains. That's right - 8,000 square feet! You will be absolutely mesmerized by the detail and hard work that it took to come up with this incredible display in which they have the model trains running on the track. Not to mention that it is free to all visitors of Union Station. This is something the whole family can enjoy. I've personally viewed this exhibit over a dozen times. However, the last time I was there, I just noticed something for the first time that made me giggle. Hint: pay close attention to the names of the law office buildings in the display.
