Did you know Verona Hills was once known as "New Sante Fe"? Before Raytown, Grandview, Hickman Mills and Martin City, New Sante Fe was home to the Washington Township post office dating back to the mid 1800's. Some time later, around 300 acres of land, now known as Verona Hills, was purchased by plantation owner Marcus Gill for only $25.00 acre. Before long, the Civil War came along forcing many residents to abandon their homes in pursuit of safer pastures. Eventually, Gill returned, his land was passed down to his heirs and in the mid 1960's, Verona Hills would become one of the first residential developments in the metro that buried electrical lines to avoid undue outages.
