If you are currently living in the Walnut Creek Acres subdivision, or if you are considering this neighborhood as your future home, you need to know about this fabulous local sanctuary. The Parkville Nature Sanctuary is truly that: a sanctuary. It provides a space to get close to nature, take a quiet walk in the woods, enjoy the sounds of birds and squirrels and basically get out of the rat race. The sanctuary has many trails to try out, from very easy, flat trails to a more challenging "single track" type of hike. My favorite is the White Tail Trail that winds its way up through the woods and then back down again. There is a variety of terrain, but it is a little challenging if you are not terribly sure footed. For a more "beginner" trail and a nice forest walk, there is the Old Kate, Bluebird and Waterfall trails. The waterfall is worth seeing, over and over, and especially after some good rains! The sanctuary is just off of Highway 9 behind the Platte County Health Department, only a couple of miles from Walnut Creek.
