I have lived in Parkville for the past 12 years and have really enjoyed most of the development around and in our little town, particularly all of the gyms and yoga studios that are available. For me, having easy access to different exercise options is very important. I won't typically drive more than 10 minutes for this. I covered the outdoor options in a previous post. Here, I am going to list the options that are either within Parkville city limits or within 5 miles of downtown.

Yoga Studios: Om Prana, Platte County Community Center South offers yoga classes, KC Yoga Center (formerly Zona Yoga). and InBliss Yoga.

Gyms: Platte County Community Center South, Hitch Fit, Laz Fit, Orange Theory Fitness, and
    Cross Fit Northland.

Specialty: Purre Barre, Rise and Shine Pilates and Wellness, and 9 Rounds.

I'm sure I have missed some and this doesn't include all of the options that are more than five miles away! No getting bored with your workout with this kind of accessibility!

Fall is the time when lots of folks want to get out for a nice drive to take in the changing leaves. Other folks look forward to the fall's bounty: the pumpkins, squash, and apples. Luckily, we live in an area within close proximity to all of this. Just outside of Parkville, west of Highway 435 on N Highway is Alldredge Orchards. They offer more than 20 varieties of apples that you can pick every weekend in September and October. There is also a pumpkin patch available this month. The kids will love the chickens and geese, as well as the play structures on site. The general store is open on the weekend and offers candy, apple butters, honey and bagged apples. If you're hungry, there is always a food truck available to fill your belly.

When my family and I moved to Parkville in 2006, the main attraction (besides the schools) was Downtown Parkville. With its unique shops, restaurants, walking trails and baseball fields, we felt we had found an oasis outside of the hustle and bustle of the surrounding communities. This was the case for a number of years. Then the financial crisis hit, and lots of those businesses closed up shop and Main Street suffered for years with lots of vacancies, businesses coming and going, etc.

In the last couple of years, there has been a revival. We've seen businesses keep their doors open and new ones opening their doors. Today, a new restaurant, the River Park Pub & Eatery, is opening its doors at the old Power Plant building. This is one of those spaces that has been dying for a tenant! With a great patio and upstairs deck, this should be a is a no-brainer. I can't wait to try it out. Main Street also has a new boutique, "Sincerely, Ellis", that opened over the weekend. I plan to stop in and shop after lunch at River Park. Next time you are looking for something to do on a Saturday, stop by and check out our little town and visit the locally-owned businesses while you're at it!

I am so excited about the fact that the biking/walking trail on the south side of Highway 45 was extended all the way to I-435 when they widened the road this winter. This allows you to bike all the way from I- 435 to the Line Creek Trail without ever getting on the road! According to the Platte County Parks & Recreation website, the length of this trail is roughly 6.5 miles, all of it paved and smooth. I use it regularly to bike between my home in Riss Lake to my farm near Thousand Oaks. I can be on the trail for 90% of this ride, which makes me feel so much safer. If you are looking for a new route to add to your repertoire, try this one out.
