I was looking for a thank you gift for my friend and decided to try White Farmhouse in downtown Parkville. Wow, I'm so happy I did. They have so many fun items from baby gifts, to local shirts, candles, and my favorites, funny napkins, and dish towels. I spent lots of time looking and giggling and trying to decide on the perfect treat as a thank you. Incahoots describes themselves as "Parkville's one-stop shop for caffeine, sweets, and booze."

Downtown Parkville is a charming shopping destination with fun for the whole family and Incahoots is no exception. I stopped in this morning for my first cup of coffee and I was pleasantly surprised by the custom roasted beans and flavor. The storefront is unique, being in an old train car, and very soon they'll be opening their bar area for evening adult beverages also! Give it a try.
  • Parkville is one of my all-time favorite places to be, especially in the summer. It is a cute city with a population of just over 5,500 people. My favorite thing to do there is playing mini-golf at Parkville Mini Golf. You can't miss it as it is located at the top of the stairs, which is the first thing you see when entering Parkville. Before COVID, they would give out free popcorn to people playing on the course. Ice cream and bottled drinks are also available to purchase.

Go back to the bottom of the stairs and you will find a cute little Italian restaurant which has amazing bread and pasta. There is also a really good pizza shop located just across the street as well as multiple boutique and coffee shops. If you love antiques as much as I do, then you are sure to enjoy this place as it also has many antique stores for you to get lost in. One of the antique stores has a little deli in it which has good subs and cream soda!

Parkville is also home to Park University which you can spot from the highway before even entering the city. This beautiful, private, non-profit school was founded in 1875 and the bell still rings. If you don't mind the historic downtown feel, you're sure to love Parkville too!

One of my favorite coffee houses found on Main St. in Parkville. As well as their hand-crated drinks they also serve delicious pastries. It's a must for great coffee and superior service.
  • Right off of 4I-29, this Seafood restaurant is worth the trip, but make reservations! They have their regular menu, plus daily specials. Fresh fish, shrimp, and scallops are all freshly prepared. Even the bed is freshly prepared, and you can tell it in the fluffy tastiness.

I have heard fabulous things about this little quaint, French cafe in downtown Parkville. After looking it up, Cafe des Amis is certainly on my bucket list for a date night with my husband. It offers traditional beef bourguignon to pan-seared diced chicken breast. Once I go there, I'll let you know how it is so stay tuned! Cafe des Amis is located in Downtown Parkville at 112 Main Street. Visit the link for more information.
  • If you work downtown or over to the east of Parkville, you'll likely get to take Route 9 home, which means getting this view and very little traffic on a daily basis. Aside from being beautiful, it could inspire a walk along the river in English Landing Park -- the only significant park in Kansas City along the river. Plus! Being near "blue spaces" (water) is actually healing.

My husband and I were lucky enough to have last Friday off work and took that time to spend the early afternoon in downtown Parkville. We had a little lunch at the Craic and then headed down to Grigsby Field for the official presentation of $25,000 to the City of Parkville from Royals Charities and Price Chopper. These two groups will make it possible to get the fields up and running this spring and get the kids back in downtown. On one of our first visits to Parkville before we moved here, we visited downtown on a Saturday. That day, there was a summer league baseball game going on, and we were sold on Parkville! We are huge baseball fans, both of the Royals and our own kids. My husband has since coached both of my sons for years on the Parkville fields. We are so thrilled that they will be back in shape for spring training!

I ran on the English Landing Trail this morning for the first time in almost a year. It is so nice to have it available again for this old body. The trail was mostly in good condition, with some areas of un-level ground, so just pay attention. Thank you to the city and county for working so hard to get both downtown parks up and running again.

I love to bike the south side of the Line Creek Trail! My favorite "out and back" ride starts at the trail head at 68th Street. Heading south from there, the trail takes you through wooded areas, along a creek and into Riverside, MO. Once you get to the Riverside portion of the trail you will start to see the city's fabulous new art installation focused on the monarch butterfly and its migration patterns through the area.

There are many beautiful metal sculptures, stained glass displays and some colorful art installations from Park Hill School art students. You can see all of the art by staying on the trail and making your way to the bridge leading to Argosy Casino. All along the bridge are colorful, stained glass displays that reflect onto the pavement. It really is beautiful. Once you reach the casino, the installation ends, but I really like to bike up onto the levy to the end and then turn around. It's about a 16 mile, round trip and well worth it!

The City of Parkville offers its residents so many conveniences! One of those is the free, fall yard waste drop off. Residents can drop off yard waste at 6305 NW River Park Drive Monday thru Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Yard waste does not need to be bagged, but the city reserves the right to limit the amount of waste being dropped off. Proof of Parkville residency is required for this free service, so have a sewer bill or driver's license handy.

This is one of my favorite places in Parkville to walk, run, take my dog for a walk, and just enjoy the outdoors. The Platte Landing Trail is now open after being repaired from the spring's floods. The leaves are changing and the river is flowing! Stop by one of the restaurants or shops in downtown after your exercise. Downtown Parkville is the main reason my family moved to Parkville from Brookside in 2005 and it never disappoints!

If you haven't been down to downtown Parkville lately, the flooding has continued to be throughout the entire park area! I drove down there yesterday to see standing water all throughout the park area, and the bridge to the fields and dog park to still be closed. Rain, rain, go away!

My husband and I went for a hike around the White Tail and Old Kate trails yesterday for the first time this spring. It has been so rainy that we haven't been able to get over there until now. The trails are in really good shape despite the rain. There is a little bit of mud and wash on the north side of the white tail trail, but it was fine. We just had to do a little more paying attention. The best part of the hike was the waterfall, which is flowing like crazy. It's so pretty and really relaxing to sit on one of the benches and take in nature.

It's dinner time. Your family is starving. You don't want to cook. Well....if you live in Parkville, you're in luck! There are so many options for eating out or take out! In this insight, I am going to focus just on the eating establishments available in downtown Parkville. Not only is our downtown picturesque and quaint, but the businesses are all locally owned and operated, for an added bonus. Starting at the top of Main Street, Cafe Des Amis is a fabulous french dining establishment that has been around for a long time. It sits above "Hairs to You" and offers a variety of options for all taste buds. Don't be put off by the french-ness. There is something for everyone and their dining room provides a good opportunity for your kids to practice their table manners. Just down the hill is a more casual Italian option: Frank's. While it has a small footprint, it puts out lots of crowd-pleasing Italian favorites that can be eaten in or carried out. Further down the hill from Frank's is the new River Park Eatery. This is a very kid-friendly space, with its large dining area, lots of TVs, and a welcoming bar and menu that covers the gamut of American cuisine. Lastly, on the east side of Main Street sits Stone Canyon Pizza. This is some of the best pizza in town. They also serve a large variety of sandwiches, soups and entrees. Next time you feel your stomach rumbling, give one of these restaurants a try!
