It’s been several years sine I have been to Weston State Park. Riding our motorcycle, I thought it seemed like a great day to explore. It has grown up considerably with more trails than we remembered. A play area for children with swings appeared midway through. The old tobacco barn still stands. The overlook to the Missouri River is fabulous. The trees were aglow with fall colors as we rode through. Take some time to enjoy any day you can get away.

Did you know that Weston has a great restaurant that serves BBQ? The Tin Kitchen in Weston has some of the best mouth watering Pulled Pork that you can get in the Kansas City area. The Brisket is delicious too. Order the fries with your meal and you have enough for the whole table. There are plenty of other sides to try as well. So, what are you waiting for? Hop in the car and head to Tin Kitchen on Main Street in Weston.

  • Weston Bend State Park, just outside of Weston town, is a wonderful spot for a quick break from the city. Located in the hills and bluffs over the Missouri River, it's one of my personal favorite spots, whether I'm looking for an early morning hike, a bike ride, or just a spot to take a lunch and a book for a few hours. It also offers a beautiful overlook of the Missouri River.

If you are looking for a place to take the kids, you can also visit the playground and have a cookout. Don't forget your dogs, as they are welcome on the trails, and can even run free in the enclosed dog park!

In May, Weston Bend hosts Wings Over Weston, an event geared towards educating children about birds and the importance of habitat conservation, through games and other fun activities. Check out the link for more details on this special event, and to also learn more about the park. You can also visit Wings Over Weston on Facebook.

Go out and enjoy this wonderful park!
  • If you are looking for a perfect location, unique setting, and unbelievably delicious food...then you have found the perfect spot. This "cafe"'s menu is second to none and somewhat unexpected. They offer a gourmet menu that is both world class but also affordable. Their menu changes seasonally. They are known for their Beef Tenderloin grilled over Missouri Apple Wood served with mushroom and bourbon sauce...and i can attest; it doesn't disappoint. Avalon Cafe is located on the hilltop on Main St. and you can't miss it! Make sure to check their webpage for menu changes and other events they have. This is without a doubt one of my favorite spots in Weston. But don't take my word for it...make a reservation and see for yourself!
  • Nothing beats Weston at holiday time. This historic town continues to be KC's "Best Day Trip" (and has been for 13 years) by Ingram's Magazine as well as "Best Small Town in Missouri" by AAA Magazine. Weston has so many interesting activities to offer visitors.

Weston is celebrating the 34th Anniversary of its Christmas Candlelight Homes Tour on December 4th, 5th and 6th. The downtown street lamps will be aglow with greenery and lights and the streets leading to the tour homes will be lined with luminaries. Prepare to be greeted to the festivities by the town's Father Christmas - another holiday tradition.

All the homes on the tour are within walking distance of the historic downtown district. So make sure and stop by the restaurants, shops and attractions while you are there. Visit www.westonmo.com for details on the Candlelight Homes Tour.

McCormick Distillery in Weston was originally opened in 1856 by Benjamin Holladay. They chose the location because of the limestone springs. At that time, it was opened under the name Holladay Distillery. It has been operating at the same location longer than any Distillery in the US. They plan to begin producing bourbon for the first time in 30 years and offering public tours of its facility for the first time in 20 years. My sister and my cousins were tour guides there "back in the day"!

One of the great draws to Weston - besides the historic town, quaint shops, restaurants and a Mayberry feel - is the Snow Creek Ski Center located just outside of town. On August 8th, obstacle course runners from all over are going to converge on Snow Creek to participate in the Rugged Maniac, a multi-mile obstacle course run that is sure to challenge even the most fit competitors. If obstacle course races are your thing, you have until August 4th to sign up and if you're not sure what they entail then spectators are welcome, so come cheer everybody on. Afterwards would be a great time to go explore all that downtown has to offer and see why so many people choose to call Weston home.

Like country music...mixed with a bit of comedy? Come check out Cline's Opry in Weston. It is located right on 45 Hwy. Sunday shows are from 5:00-7:00 pm with tickets costing $12/adults. I really enjoyed the keyboard guy. He was excellent...really worth going to hear. Don't forget to stop by the concession area for drinks and pie! It's like having a piece of Branson in our hometown.
